Zune Marketplace: Three Free Weekly - Oops!!!

Posted by: Heather on Nov 14 2008 - 7 views

Well, it seems that I was wrong in my last post saying that those songs were the last 3 songs from the Zune Marketplace’s ‘Three Free Weekly’.  They threw one more our way, or in this case three, but this is really the last one.  Unless of course MS changes their mind, which I hope they do.  This last one demonstrates what was so great about the program.  We see music from R&B, Country, and the Hip Hop worlds.  So make sure to enjoy these freebies!!!

A Woman’s Worth by Alicia Keys; Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash; Stop-N-Go by Ugk

The only requirement for downloading the free music is that you download and use the Zune software.

MS Adds New Art and Color to the Zune

Posted by: Heather on Nov 09 2008 - 13 views

MS has added 46 brand new designs to its Zune Originals line.  The art available is now broken down into three categories:  Artist, Zodiac, and Tattoo.  The artist series contains 32 unique designs.  They are honestly amazing.  I have the Tado design on my pink Zune4.  The etching is awesome!!!  The second category is new- Zodiac.  Zodiac designs feature artwork from Catalina Estrada and Iosefatu Sua.  Catalina tackles all of the Western Astrology, while Iosefatu explores Eastern Astrology.  The designs are gorgeous, and I love my Pisces artwork.  Finally, the Tattoo designs are a little simpler than the other two categories, but just as striking.  The bonus with the Tattoo designs is that you can still add text to go along with the art.  If you are thinking about getting a Zune, it is well worth the extra $15 for the artwork.  This is one program from MS that I do not believe gets the attention it deserves.  Where else can you get specially made and designed electronics?  The second big excitement, to go along with the added designs, is that more evidence was discovered of a blue Zune120 on its way.  Thanks to JohnnyWest at Zunerama for spotting the note about a currently unreleased Zune hard drive color.  I am very happy about this news!!!  I have been waiting for a blue Zune since Gen. 1.  Now, the blue is currently available for the 16 GB, but I have been waiting for a blue hard drive Zune.  So, if Santa Bill Gates is listening, I have been a very good Zuner this year.  (Blue Zune120 with Pisces design)  I know he may be retired, but I am sure he still has connections.

Listen To This! The Great JAMM Portable Media Player Showdown. Part 2: Hardware

Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 24 2008 - 65 views

jamm_listen_to_this_3

When I started thinking about this series, one of the hardest things to wrap my brain around was where to begin.  Then, I thought about Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.  “Start at the very beginning.  A very good place to start.”  You know what?  That is excellent advice.  So, rather than getting into some of the more complex areas like playing music or videos, I thought we would start with what you see right out of the box.  Usually, the battery is dead or near to it when you buy a new media player, so the first thing you are going to do is not watch a video or play some music.  The first thing you will do is tear through that box and examine the hardware (pining for the ability to use it while it is charging.)  So, I thought it made the most sense to start there…right out of the box.  And we will do that in a few initial articles.

Today, I am going to take a look at the players themselves.  Turned off, and just looking at the hardware and construction.  The next two installments will look at the rest of the contents of the respective boxes, including earphones and accessories.  We’ll then wrap up this initial section with a look at the controls on each of the devices.  Then, we’ll start to look into what happens when you turn these things on and start playing with them.  So, let’s jump right in and start at the very beginning.  You slowly and carefully remove your new device from the packaging…

Listen To This! The Great JAMM Portable Media Player Showdown. Part 1: Introduction

Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 10 2008 - 168 views

I have spent a considerable amount of time here at JAMM, and also at Gear Diary, reviewing portable media players.  One thing I have noticed is that a stand-alone review is really not the best format to help users answer the real question on everyone’s mind: which one should I buy?  While a review is nice, it looks at a particular media player in a vacuum.  The missing piece in the review is how this one compares to the others.  And that is what I want to try to accomplish through this series.

So, in addition to the Sandisk Sansa View, which I already own, I went on eBay and gobbled up a  Microsoft Zune, Samsung YP-P2, and Creative Zen X-Fi.  Heck, I even got the Sony Walkman A828 back on an extended loan.  After considerable thought, I also replaced my iPod Touch with the new fourth generation iPod Nano for this series.

Zune Marketplace: Three Free Weekly

Posted by: Heather on Sep 25 2008 - 12 views

The Zune Marketplace has made me happy once again by picking two of my favorite artists:  Beyonce and Justin Timberlake.  Beyonce’s song Irreplaceable is one that everyone should own.  Its the perfect angry break-up song.  What is a better message than “I can find someone better than you in a minute.”  The song is obviously sung from a female point of view, but guys can just reverse the genders around in the song no problem.  The message speaks to all.

Irreplaceableby Beyonce; Hey Baby (Jump Off)by Bow Wow/Omarion; Until The End of Timeby Justin Timberlake

The only requirement for the free songs, is that you downloadand install the Zune software, which is free.  I have some sad news about the Three Free Weekly.  The program will be ending on Nov. 4.  There are only six weeks left, so hurry and download the music now.

More Zune Colors = Happiness

Posted by: Heather on Sep 17 2008 - 31 views

A member of the forum community at Zuneboards discovered some ’secret, unreleased’ Zune colors mentioned in the new Zune 3.0 software.  The new colors would be for the Zune 120 and Zune 16, and include blue, red, and white.  There is also mention of a choice between the black and silver device back.  All I can say is “WHOO  WHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”  One of my major disappoints with the Zune 3.0 release was the lack of colors, especially the lack of blue for the Zune 120.  Now, none of the new colors have been confirmed by Microsoft, but let’s hope these rumors are true.  Look at the sleek red flash Zune with the black Zune pad.  I love it!!!
