Review: Bubble Shuffle by Astraware

Bubble Shuffle is a word game from Astraware.  It challenges your brain through four different games to see how many words you can construct with the bubble letters given.  I have to admit that this game was a big adventure for me.  My Scrabble skills consist of words like HAT, BAT, MAT, CAT or CHAT.  So, word games are not exactly my strong point.  I had to call in the support of my partner, super Scrabble player extraordinaire, “Iris”.  She’s one of those people that you see use a word you had no idea even existed.  I figured the only true way to test this game is to let a novice and an expert have a go at it.  See the exciting conclusions after the break.

Rumor: Zune Goes Soft

4-02-09zune.jpg

Hearing the report of a possible Zune becoming just a mere application on a Windows Mobile phone makes me think of Propellerheads Reason – all the audio hardware gear becoming software. With the Zune, wasn’t it all software to begin with? And coming from Microsoft, that would most likely have been written with some flavor of the .NET framework. I seriously like the idea – get rid of hardware for software! However, there are also some major drawbacks to this that I can see. iPhones and iPods all have a serious amount of storage for music and videos. But how much space does one normally get on a Windows Mobile powered phone? The amount of NAND flash memory on most (if not all that I’ve seen so far) are laughable. How this will go will certainly depend on phone hardware manufacturers I would think. I like the idea, and I sure hope to see more oomph on a phone…say maybe a nice Intel Atom processor and a solid state drive…we’ll see how this goes if the Zune software app makes it to market.

Press Release: Twice from HeroCraft

Twice is a new logic and memory game from HeroCraft.  It is available for practically all systems:  Windows Mobile, Palm, iPhone/iTouch, Blackberry, Series 60 v.3, and UIQ v.3.  Twice puts a new spin on the classic memory game.  The object of the game is to flip over the tiles one-by-one, and remember the pattern on the other side.  When you select two identical tiles, you score points.  Match all of the tiles to complete the level, and move on to the next one.  The game has three different modes:  a race against time, a limited number of attempts, or no limit at all.   HeroCraft has also added soothing Oriental music and magical graphics.  I don’t know about you, but anything that will help my memory is a good thing.  Throw in a little fun and relaxation, and I am all set.

I didn’t feel the Earth Move! Microsoft Promises…

imapcandimamacOne of the everlasting gripes that Windows mobile users have is the lack of development of the operating system. Also the way any updates flow on the end user. If you have a device supplied by any service provider eg; locked to a network, you don’t have a choice, unless your service provider, via the OEM releases an update to your device’s ROM, you are stuck with what you’ve got, unless you are partial to trying out cooked ROM’s from other sources.

With the price of current handsets tripling at times, the price of current netbooks, you could surmise that we would be seeing an upturn in the use of VoIP services, and therefore a lot of news about the aforementioned services, seems not. One thing Windows Mobile users are is loyal, and the “fit’s in a pocket  device”, Phone, is something that won’t go away, but what is Microsoft’s plan to assure an incredible device experience? Well the “Ballmer” of Monkey dance fame, is talking forward…
