Windows Mobile 6.5 Screenshots, The Rumour Mill!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 13 2008 - 15 viewsGet ready for a roller coaster ride, cause the Windows Mobile train is nearing the top of the first drop, into what may be oblivion, or actualisation. Since a Motorola Exec disclosed the existence of Windows Mobile 6.5,
“Windows Mobile 6 has not delivered the experience that I think Apple has been able to deliver, but as you look at the plan that is Windows Mobile 7 and even 6.5, I think there are significant new added features which will help the platform”.
and then Microsoft’s resident monkey man, on tour in Australia, got an overdose of bananas, and confirmed it. There are, questionable, dubious screenshots emerging, well one lot actually.
I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of this, but I’m not really convinced. What do you think about the look of these screenshots? Notice anything out of place? Others have

As If ? Windows Mobile on the iPhone!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 15 2008 - 43 viewsEver think that you’d found the next best thing to sliced bread, and then not really know what to do with it? Yesterday, the inter tubes were all afire with news of an iPhone running Windows Mobile. In the video it looks like this young Dev has ported WinMo to the iPhone, making it a dual boot system. At this point though, it’s really hard to tell whether this is real or fake. Others posted yesterday on this, and then revoked the post rather quickly, so it’s really hard to tell if this is factual or not.

Windows 7 for Free… Well some pain included!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 09 2008 - 41 viewsEveryone’s waiting for the new version of Windows to emerge, and hoping it will erase the Vista fiasco, as XP did to ME. Recently it came to light that if you attended certain conferences, you would go home with an advance copy of the operating system.
Who isn’t ready for Windows 7? That wiser, stabler, more streamlined OS with Vista’s good looks but an even prettier Start button and an alleged 15-second boot time? Heck, even Bill Gates is excited to get on to the next version. You can get your hands on a “pre-beta” version of Windows 7 by attending the Professional Developer Conference (PDC) in LA October 27 to 30, or the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC), also in LA shortly after, from November 5 to 7. Go get them, and then report back to us with some new info. [Vista Blog;]
So if you’re available, and have the connections, you can get your Windows Fix. Although what sort of fix it is I can’t say, cool or retro, I am really hoping that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel.
Whether this be an alpha or beta, it’s going to be a coup for Microsoft, but will the OS live up to the hype? With the advent of the “netbook” and a move by Apple to run one OS on all of it’s devices, will Windows 7 be the Windows Lite that has been rumoured. A Microsoft OS with a much more efficient and compact core. I suppose we’ll find out next month, but if you had the next big thing, how would you present it. I hope this is an example of how not to do it!

Browser War Bomb… Mozilla Mobile?
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 08 2008 - 59 viewsNot that I’m obsessive or any thing, but the quest for a windows mobile browser that serves up a desktop browsing experience is, a lot of peoples gripe. Opera have a good solution, but it is tailored to really top end windows mobile devices like the Diamond and the touch HD. device memory seems to be the key with all of the newer browsers.
Apparently the rumoured entry from Mozilla is about to go to Alpha testing, when earlier we heard that it would not appear for years. It seems there’s going to be a release, and if someone could tell me how to get on to the alpha team I’d appreciate it.

Update: Teksoft BlueInput 1.5
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 08 2008 - 26 views
BlueInput, or BlueMouse as it used to be called has received an update, and a new tag. This was the second application I ever reviewed,
Pretty novel idea I thought, using a mouse with my axim x51, and something I really wanted to try out. Not to mention the fact that it saves the cost of screen protectors. Now BlueMouse has been around for a while so I’m assuming quite a few people have tried out the earlier versions and either liked it or not. This latest revision has added in support for a lot more devices from major mouse manufacturers, so a mouse you tried before may be compatible with BlueMouse now, and worth another try.
The introduction above from the review really sums up what the app does, and it does it well.
Name: BlueInput Driver for Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard
Version: 1.5.RC-3
Release date: October 7, 2008
Supported Platform: Pocket PC with Microsoft Bluetooth Stack / WM5.0 or newer / BT Mouse+Keyboard compatible
Supported Screen Size: SQUARE, SQUARE VGA, QVGA, VGA, WQVGA, WVGA (all)
So I’m thinking they’ve added in a whole heap of support for lots of other devices, it’s well worth a look for sure.

Windows Mobile 7… waiting
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 23 2008 - 18 views
It seems Windows Mobile development has stalled, I find myself wondering if Jerry Seinfeld has a BlackBerry? and Bill may be a little less observant than he used to be. Old Age hits us all at some stage. Accepting the fact that Windows Mobile development is actually measured in dog years {seven to one} seems to be the norm, and according to a post at Cnet News today, we’ll be dressing like the android in the photo to the right before we see a competitive update to rival Android.
Although Microsoft has not publicly said when to expect Windows Mobile 7, partners who had expected to have a final release in their hands by early next year have been told now that it won’t be ready until the second half of next year, sources told CNET News.
Somehow, it strikes me that this is indicative of the Microsoft approach, we’ve got it all, but wait there’s more…
Most Windows Mobile users would like to see a real OS update, not just a collection of random patches that define the WM6 and WM6.1 updates. Yes Windows Mobile has been updated since WM5, but they seem like point updates, version updates seem to be lacking. I suppose I’d like to see some changes, well major changes in the Mobile OS especially considering the bevy of devices emerging that have as much power, as the first desktop computer that I ever played with. Seriously, sometimes I think M$ has cast it’s net too wide, to be able to manage, and maintain/ support all of it’s users. Whilst they try to reinvigorate their image with the “I’m a PC” campaign, they are leaving a lot of users out in the cold as far as updates are concerned.
Looks like there will not be an update for some time, but as usual Steve says almost all.
