MSI Wind: A Day In My Life
Posted by: dgoldring on Nov 07 2008 - 211 viewsA few weeks ago, I introduced you all to my latest purchase, the MSI Wind netbook (Wind stands for Wireless Network Device.) I unboxed it and briefly explained the reasons behind my purchase. At that time, I promised a full review would follow. In the interim, however, I have found that there is an abundance of traditional reviews of the Wind, including this fantastic head-to-head review of the MSI Wind and Asus 1000. As such, I really did not think I would have anything to add through a traditional review. I agree with much of what has already been said. But, that does not mean I am without opinions on this one.
So, rather than go through the Wind point by point, I am going to tell you why I bought the Wind and what my expectations were. And we’ll see how it lives up to my preconceived notions. Ready? Let’s get started.

Overclock the MSI Wind! BIOS 1.09 update
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 25 2008 - 44 views
Like a lot of you, I’m new to the netbook arena. It’s probably the biggest growth area in mobile computing, and the good netbooks out there cost a lot less than the latest Windows Mobile devices. I don’t know how to quantify that fact except by giving you some price comparisons in Australian dollars. When I got my Eee, it cost me 520; at the same time a HTC Touch Dual on a huge discount would have cost me 649. A Tilt would have set me back around 1100. So for a budget conscious mobile aficionado, netbooks are the way to go.
We on the JAMM Team are divided: there are two Wind gentlemen and two Eee users to date. We haven’t had a showdown yet, but I know that Doug and I have actually made our netbooks our primary devices as far as PCs go.
So when an update like this comes to light, it is something that should be brought to light for the team here at JAMM, as well as for you readers.
Now the Eee comes with some software, the Super Hybrid Engine, that allows you to change the way the processor acts and therefore how it affects battery life. Well, MSI have gone a step further and released a BIOS update that lets you manage the clock speed of your Wind with shortcut keys. Follow the link below to find out the best way to apply the update! Basically, you’ll be encouraged to overclock the Wind (are we getting nerdy now?).
