Video: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 13 2008 - 15 views
With all of the delays, non appearances, that the Xperia has had, it would be nice to think that it will be available somewhere, some time. Well a search of YouTube, found me a little glimpse of the X1, and I thought I’d share it with you guys. We know it’s a HTC made device, and there are some comparisons to another HTC device, namely the Touch Pro. When you’ll be able to get your hands on one, I throw my hands up in hope!

The Eve of Android!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 22 2008 - 16 viewsNow, I’m not going to get anywhere near the Dream from Google, in anything like the near future, so any sort of info or hands on, visual display of the OS, the phone actually operating, is vital to me. A new mobile operating system, on a new if somewhat, ungainly appearing device, that is exclusive, is something I’m interested in {read obsessed}.
The video above that I found at Experience Mobility, {thanks Jack}, has done nothing to extinguish my interest in this device. The video is the best Demo of the Android interface I’ve seen, and there are some specs and features discussed, the importance of I hadn’t twigged to. have a look at the 300 Mhz device running Quake, graphics are good.{understatement} Being an OS from Google, you would expect to see some apps focused on their already existing application base. Streetview being one of them. So when you get your Dream, could you let me know how good/bad/or indifferent it is?

For Your Viewing Pleasure: The HTC Touch HD
Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 18 2008 - 30 viewsEarlier this week, I told you about a new phone from HTC, the Touch HD, which features an immense screen, TouchFlo 3D and a host of other fantastic features. Well, if those specs and pictures were not enough to wet your appetite, then check out this video. It is entirely in French, so most of you can just turn down the volume, watch, and enjoy. I don’t know about you, but this is almost making me reconsider getting the HTC Diamond and waiting for the Touch HD instead…almost.

What’s an Android Phone worth?
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 18 2008 - 13 viewsIt took me a while to dig up footage of the London developer day that Google held, showcasing the android OS on an unnamed/unbranded device. That looked incredibly familiar.
So the demo at the London event and the announcement from T-Mo of an event next week, really has people champing at the bit, but really how much will the G1 set you back? What sort of contract will you be chained to? What sort of price will the supposed HTC device command unlocked?
So many questions, and so much speculation, with so much silence, it’s probably driving up the price, or is it.
Cnet news are throwing a ballpark figure out there.
What would you pay for the Dream?

XXX, Experia, Here’s Johnny!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 15 2008 - 67 views
We all Are familiar with the crazed face of Jack Nicholson, poking through an axe shattered door, announcing himself. It seems Sony are using the same sort of imagery, some sort of rugged, (if not unbalanced character), to add some verve to the official product launch, of the highly anticipated Experia.
Looks like Sony are taking an alternative approach to their pre launch expose’ of the Experia, that’s slick, macho and well, slick…
It’s a little bit convoluted for me, and ethereal, I expected to see a device and I’m seeing “Johnny X” a fictional character that embodies the attributes of the Experia? or is this phone being marketed at a very different consumer base?
The preview can be viewed online here, by my time at the moment I’ve got about an hour to wait for this to be live, and I probably won’t hang around for it. Although there may be a current preview there is still no release date on the device so we all should take this as a teaser, and hope the device lives up to the demo/marketing hype.

The iPod Touch Review. Part 2: The Touch is a Portable Media Player
Posted by: dgoldring on Aug 03 2008 - 164 views
It is a common misconception that Apple invented the portable media player a little over 10 years ago with the original iPod. Nothing could be further from the truth. Digital music has been around much longer than that. In fact, I still remember coveting the Rio Jukebox, a brick of a device which could hold a whopping 40 albums (if my memory serves me correctly). Then again, even though Apple did not invent the portable media player, they certainly did advance the genre significantly. What Apple gave us was an easy to use platform. Before the iPod, transferring your music and syncing it to your media player was a chore, riddled with frustration. Apple gave us a checkbox-based interface, which made it easy to sync the content on your computer with your iPod. But, more on that, later.
Of course, through the years, the iPod continued to evolve and grow, as it developed a color screen, video capabilities, a touch screen, and more. The ultimate culmination of these efforts (so far) is the iPod Touch/iPhone. Despite all of the advanced capabilities that the iPod now offers, however, its roots are forever bound to that original portable media player. Unlike, which were developed as mini-computers that happen to play music and videos, therefore, the iPod is a portable media player, which has developed other features. Because of these evolutionary origins of the iPod Touch, the portable media player seemed like the ideal place to start our look at the capabilities of this device.
