Zune Releases Software/Firmware Update 3.1
Posted by: Heather on Nov 24 2008 - 34 views![]()
MS has released update 3.1 for all Zunes, and it is available now for download. This update is all about fun!!! There are three free new games: Checkers, Sudoku, and Space Battle. Plus, Texas Hold’em has also been updated to include new levels of difficulty in single player mode, as well as a multi-player mode. I love portable gaming, so this was a welcome surprise. There is also a new feature for the Zune Social called ‘Like-minded Listeners’. It allows Zuners to compare their musical preferences with other listeners and friends. The Zune Social is getting a face lift, as well, to make navigation a little clearer. The update is also suppose to improve device stability, performance, and PC syncing. I hope we continue to see more updates for the Zune in the future. When the device first premiered, it was quite awhile before we saw anything, so keep up the good work MS.

Iris Mobile Browser, Beta 2!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 21 2008 - 29 views
One of the consistent and ongoing gripes of windows mobile users is the lack of a real browser. The Native MIE is a poor sibling to opera 8.5, and of course there’s netftont, still in Beta as well. Since we’ve learned that there will be no update to MIE 6 for older devices, a lot of us still have to look to third party browsers like Iris from Torch, for a better WinMo browsing experience!

Windows Mobile 6.5 Screenshots, The Rumour Mill!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 13 2008 - 23 viewsGet ready for a roller coaster ride, cause the Windows Mobile train is nearing the top of the first drop, into what may be oblivion, or actualisation. Since a Motorola Exec disclosed the existence of Windows Mobile 6.5,
“Windows Mobile 6 has not delivered the experience that I think Apple has been able to deliver, but as you look at the plan that is Windows Mobile 7 and even 6.5, I think there are significant new added features which will help the platform”.
and then Microsoft’s resident monkey man, on tour in Australia, got an overdose of bananas, and confirmed it. There are, questionable, dubious screenshots emerging, well one lot actually.
I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of this, but I’m not really convinced. What do you think about the look of these screenshots? Notice anything out of place? Others have

Opera Mini 4.2 beta released!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 12 2008 - 22 views
I’ve been using opera Mini for a while on a crapola Samsung E250, the best solution for email on the go, the native WAP browser that came with the phone is really inadequate for everyday internet use. For those of you that have Java enabled handsets of any kind, it’s worth a look.
Opera Mini 4.2 beta installs next to any existing stable Opera Mini version on your device and will not overwrite any of your data.
Alternatively, you may download Opera Mini to your computer for a manual installation.
- Standard Opera Mini 4.2 beta JAR (124 KB)
- Standard Opera Mini 4.2 beta JAD (4 KB)
- BlackBerry Opera Mini 4.2 beta ZIP archive (104 KB)
- Palm (requires JVM installed) Opera Mini 4.2 beta PRC (316 KB)
Obviously it works with BlackBerry and Palm equipped phones as well. If you haven’t tried it what’s stopping you, it’s free, you’ve got to love a bargain like that

Review: SPB Keyboard 4
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 11 2008 - 165 viewsI am definitely a self professed SPB Software fanboy, I love their software, and I make no bones about it. That fact though, doesn’t make me biased, if they serve up a lemon, I’m gonna purse my lips and say yuck!

Now I’ve still got SPB Full Screen Keyboard loaded on my device, and it was the earliest attempt at a finger friendly keyboard for WinMo.
The keyboard is one of the most important aspects of human interfacing with a mobile device. The award-winning SPB Full Screen Keyboard was first released back in 2002, and is one of Spb’s flagship products with more than a six-year-long history of success. This finger-friendly on-screen keyboard came out way before the iPhone notion of usability, but still accumulated tens of thousands of loyal customers from all over the world.
OK the need for a finger friendly SIP has considerably reduced, iPhone has it, but most people are opting for devices with hardware keyboards, but for those of us who can’t afford to update this is looking like very good news. Hit the link below to see why I think so!
