Tossing up Idea’s!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 04 2008 - 17 views
I’m in a muddle, EEE PC 1000H, Touch Dual, or HTC Touch Cruise. All around the same price, Touch Cruise = WM 6.1, Touch Dual = WM 6, and I can get a display EEE PC 1000H for AU$ 598. Yeah I’d prefer a Diamond, or the Touch Pro HD, but considering my location, and the availability of devices not under contract, my choices are as above. I’m leaning towards the Eeepie, but I’m enamoured with the touch dual. Who wants’ to let me know which of these three devices will get me more bang for my buck?
Thanks to Jack for the Cruise News!!!
Let me know what you think in the comments, I’m about ready to pull the trigger

Hey Apple! Pull your head out of your….

Provocative title no?
Caution: Brandon Mini-Rant Coming.
First off, let’s start this one with the obvious… MobileFailMe. I’m not going to beat this one to death, because well frankly, I don’t use it. But, given the amount of issues they’ve had it hardly seemed timely to light off a good rant and not mention the fact that this was such a HUGE FAIL. I mean come on. Jobs had to come out and basically admit they made huge mistakes and that the service is not up to snuff. I personally have the money sitting right here and I want to get on the MobileMe bandwagon… but I won’t won’t bother buying into it (and I own a Mac) until it comes with a whole lot less …
Next up … iPhone 2.0/2.0.1 - the most recent definition of head up the you know what. Apple made a vital mistake - they told us long in advance what date 2.0 was coming out, and come hell or high water the product was going to launch. There’s no way Steve was going to Read more »

Samsung Omnia, pretty slick…
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jul 26 2008 - 76 viewsSamsung’s latest offering, the Omnia, really appeals to me. It’s packing Windows Mobile 6.1 professional, a 3.2” display, comes in 8 or 16 Gb flavours, and still has an added micro SDHC slot.
I’m salivating at the thought of this phone, another of the Black Slabs arriving on the market at the moment. It’s all a little Space Odyssey ‘esque. Though this review over at PhoneArena didn’t do anything to dampen my thoughts of getting a converged device.
Have a look at the review, it’s really in depth, and if your a WM devotee, it might be your next phone.

At Last: Sprint and HTC Release Windows Mobile 6.1 for Mogul and Touch
Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 21 2008 - 51 views

(Mogul) (Touch)
I was pretty excited last week when I saw Peter’s post about the new ROM upgrade for the Sprint Mogul and Touch. At least. Windows Mobile 6.1, here we come. Alas, when I made my way to the download page, I was shocked to find that not only was the new ROM not available, but the whole download page was gone.
So, what gives here? Was Peter wrong? Misinformed? Lying? Of course not. HTC and Sprint did briefly release both new ROMs, then pulled them only moments later, choosing instead to wait for a Monday release. Makes perfect sense to me. I mean, who wants to spend a whole weekend reinstalling software and settings? I’d much rather do that on a weekday evening when I am already exhausted from work and pressed for time so I am not up all night.
Fortunately, like I said, HTC and Sprint seem to share that view, and pulled the convenient Friday evening release, in favor of a Monday afternoon release.
In addition to Windows Mobile 6.1, Mogul owners can also expect to find:
- Sprint TV (at last)
- EDVO-Rev A (from the previous ROM)
- advanced GPS (from the previous ROM
- numerous minor upgrades and fixes
Touch owners will find:
- EVDO-Rev A
- advanced GPS
- a new QWERTY on-screen keyboard
- Opera Browser (no word on why this was not included in the Mogul)
So, I suppose you know where you’ll find me tonight. Yup, reloading software on my newly minted Windows Mobile 6.1 Sprint Mogul.

Google Talk for iPhone…
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jul 03 2008 - 335 views
It had to happen, and in timely manner for the release of the Second coming of the “Jesus Phone”. Over at the Google Mobile blog we have a new release of Google talk designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch. It doesn’t involve any downloads or software installs, it all works through the installed browser. I wonder if this was the way the iPhone was actually intended to work, over the air.
The beauty of this app from Google is that it’s dependent on the browser, so it’ll work with the now “He’s not the Messiah, he’s just a naughty boy” first generation iPhone as well.
There are some differences from using Google Talk on your computer. For instance, in order to receive instant messages with Google Talk on your iPhone, the application needs to be open in your Safari browser. When you navigate away to another browser window or application, your status will be changed to “unavailable” and your Google Talk session will be restarted when you return.
I appreciate the fact that they’ve tried as much as possible, to keep this as true to the desktop application as they can,Have a look at the Official Google Mobile Blog for more on this.

In the mood for something suite?
Posted by: ssschmidt on May 27 2008 - 561 viewsMay I present for your tasting pleasure, The iWindowsMobile Communication Suite
Ever been walking along and decide to make a quick call, and you have to drag out the silly non writing pen just to find the person’s number?. Or, your phone beeps, you have a text message and want to respond, and then realize (shudder) that your stylus is gone?
Windows Mobile Professional Devices (Touch Screen) are moving more toward finger friendly every day. Sometimes it just isn’t convenient to drag out the stylus. So what do you do?
Recipe:
- Start with a WM Professional Device.
- Add in equal parts: Goodwin, Fun Contact, SMS-Chat, and Zoomboard.
- Do Not Shake or Stir.
Now for the taste test. And you even get to use your fingers.
