Unboxing the HTC Touch Pro (Sprint Edition)

Posted by: dgoldring on Nov 15 2008 - 77 views

[Note: This is a joint article being written by Doug, Lauren, and Sue.  Doug's comments will appear in normal typeface, Lauren's in bold, and Sue's will be italicized.  We are also simultaneously posting it on both JAMM and Gear Diary.]

Doug: I had a nice surprise in the mail the other day when I tore open a Fed Ex envelope to find the HTC Touch Pro.  By coincidence, as you may have noticed, Lauren and Sue (for you Gear Diary readers, they are both contributors at JAMM) both also picked up the HTC Touch Pro earlier this month.   So, we thought it would be fun for all of  us to share our thoughts together on this new device.  The Touch Pro is the latest offering from HTC and the successor to my previous phone, the Sprint Mogul.  We’ll take a closer look at all of the features of the phone, including the new Touch Flo 3D interface.  Today, though, we just wanted to take a quick look at what is in the box and share a few preliminary thoughts.

Why I switched from Palm OS to Windows Mobile

Posted by: Sue on Nov 11 2008 - 127 views

In my job over at PPCTechs, I see operating systems from Windows Mobile, Palm and Symbian (Blackberry).

Bit of background for you: those of you who have called into the company - I’m the girl with the English accent. Those of you who email us with a question, I’m the one that answers the email. Those of you who send units in - I used to be the one who checks them in and sent you the email to say it’s there. Yeah, that’s me.

HTC Launches Touch Pro On Sprint: Christmas Comes In October

Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 24 2008 - 74 views

I just got an email from the folks over at HTC today.  It seem that the much anticipated HTC Touch Pro has finally landed at Sprint.  This is the one I, and many of you, have been waiting for.  Its features include:

  • a five-row, slide-out QWERTY keyboard f
  • 2.8 inch display
  • built-in 3.2 megapixel camera including an optical auto-focus lens
  • Windows Mobile 6.1
  • advanced wireless capabilities (EV-DO Rev. A)
  • expandable storage capabilities with a microSD card slot
  • a business card scanner application
  • auto sensor screen pivoting

As HTC says, this is the perfect device to balance both your professional and personal lives. The HTC Touch Pro is priced at $299.99 with a two-year subscribtion.  It also requires the Everything plan with data. Customers will be able to purchase the device in select national retailers beginning the week of Oct. 26 and in all Sprint sales channels, including online at www.sprint.com, 1-800-SPRINT1 and Sprint Stores, on Nov. 2.

So, is this on your short list for your next device?  I have been looking at this and the Sprint Instinct, but I am leaning heavily back toward the Touch Pro.  Hopefully, I will be able to land one by the end of the year.  How about you?  Is this the device you have been waiting for?  Or is something else capturing your fancy?  Wait.  Before you answer, click past the jump for the full release from HTC.

HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, Coming (Very) Soon To A Sprint Store Near You

Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 03 2008 - 30 views

Rumors are swirling around the impending release of the CDMA versions of the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro.  According to this report which was unearthed by IntoMobile, the Touch Diamond is coming in mid-September, while the Touch Pro is due to be released October 19.

Looks like the Diamond will cost $549.99, but will be reduced to as little as $249.99 with a two year contract.  The Touch Pro is $579.99, but will be reduced to $329.99 with a two contract.

Keep in mind, that despite the official-looking document in the image, this is all still firmly in the rumor category until we actually see devices in the store.  Still, it is nice to know that these may be coming sooner rather than later.

Touching… The Touch Pro!

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Aug 12 2008 - 65 views

Now the HTC Diamond, is emerging in the states, sometime soon, it’s been available in Oz for a while through Telstra. So having had the opportunity to get some hands on time in Telstra’s new stores, that offer real, working devices to try out, I’m faithfully waiting for the Touch Pro to appear down under.

Comparatively, it has quite a small form factor, similair to the tilt, with the design nuances of the Diamond. The attraction I have for the Touch Pro is the hardware keyboard, and the specs of course.

Ryan Block over at Engadget has done a great gallery of photo’s that really show the sleek and stylish Touch Pro at it’s best , and the thing that stand’s out to me is it’s visual symmetry. It seems to be well proportioned, and to have the quality build of recent HTC devices.

More of Ryan’s images after the break…

Hey! Sprint Fans. The Touch Pro is Coming…Soon?

I have always said that Sprint (which is my current carrier) has some pretty mediocre phones, but great service.  Other carriers, like AT&T, on the other hand, have some of the most cutting edge phones, but lousy service (just ask Brandon about 3G out in Denver).  Well, lately it seems that Sprint is doing everything in their power to prove me wrong.  First it was the Instinct, which I am just dying to try.  And now, it looks like the Touhc Pro (aka Raphael) will be coming soon to a Sprint store near you.  No word on a timeline, and I hope this comes to fruition a little (OK, a lot) faster than the Palm 800w.  All we can tell you for now is that the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA version) has apparently received FCC approval here in the United States, a major step in the process of a handset become and actual phone, available in stores near you.  Of course, you Verizon fans can likely expect to see the Touch Pro as well, but hopefully (in my own selfish way) it will be coming first to Sprint.  Godspeed, Touch Pro.  Hopefully, we will see you soon.
