SPB TV 2 for Windows Mobile Announced

SPB Software has just released a major update to one of their programs.  SPB TV for Windows Mobile now sees the light of day at version 2.  Along with a slew of features, version 2 finds a new pricing model.  It’s now free!  Yep, you read right… SPB TV 2 is available for free.  You can find the full press release below:

8 June 2010 - SPB Software, a leading mobile software developer, has updated the Windows Mobile version of its flagship application SPB TV to version 2.0. Due to advertising revenues support the program is now free-of-charge and subscription-free. Ads featured in SPB TV only last as long as channel buffering takes and therefore preserve the best user experience.

In addition to the existing features that include quick channel previews, a TV guide for more than 150 offered channels in more than 20 languages, picture-in-picture mode, fast channel launching and switching, the new version offers also a video on demand (VOD) option. With this new feature the users can control what they are watching and when. Unlike broadcast TV, VOD provides greater choice and interactivity.

Another significant enhancement is the Advanced Video Codec (H.264) support which improves video quality. As a result even with substantial lower bitrates the resolution is strongly improved. SPB TV 2.0 also allows to watch TV with low speed mobile network connections.

SPB TV works on iPhone, Symbian, Android, BlackBerry and WebOS smartphones as well. Last month SPB TV has reached one million users milestone. It is interesting to see how mobile TV watching behaviour is different in different countries. For example 71% of US users use SPB TV via 3G while in Greece and Poland only 10% of users use 3G and others use WiFi.

“Taken into consideration all the statistics and feedback collected from our users, we created the new version of SPB TV, which can not only offer our users better video quality but can be also available to all Windows Mobile users absolutely for free”, said Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, CEO of SPB Software.

SPB TV is also available as a solution for mobile operators.  SPB TV Mobile Operators Solution allows carriers to couple SPB’s proven solution with their own infrastructure and various subscription models. Three mobile operators world-wide has already deployed SPB TV based mobile TV solutions.

Spb Software House…Brings Brain Training To The iPhone With Brain Evolution

image

Yesterday, Spb Software House announced the availability of their award winning Brain Evolution puzzle pack for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Back in January 2007 Doug reviewed the Windows Mobile version of this game.  Even though the platform has changed, Doug’s review provided many amazing screenshots and explanations of the levels that will help the novice get up-to-speed very quickly.  Now SPB has ported this game to the iPhone and iPod Touch, with many new enhancements.

Quick Look: Solving The Mysteries of Spb Puzzle

ScreenShot2

I am a pretty big fan of jigsaw puzzles.  I love that moment when you dump out the box on the table.  The contrasting images of the picture of the box top on one hand, and the pile of broken pieces on the other, is irresistible.  As is the challenge of turning that pile of jagged edges back into the image on the box.  The problem is, now that I have three kids, it can be pretty hard to find the time or space to actually complete an entire puzzle.  So, now our rainy Saturday afternoons are spent watching SpongeBob and Thomas and Friends.  If only there were some way to watch TV with the kids, and solve jigsaw puzzle at the same time…without using up the entire kitchen table.  If only I could carry these puzzles with me everywhere I want, and pick up right where I left off.  And that is exactly the problem which Spb Software House attempts to solve with Spb Puzzle.

Spb Puzzle Announced Today

It is the classic rainy day activity.  Gather around the table and pull out the giant 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.  What better way to spend the day?  The only problem we have is gathering around the table with three young kids, generally ends with jigsaw puzzle pieces all over the floor, and someone in tears.  Kind of ruins the perfect rainy day activity.  Well, now our friends over at Spb Software House have solved the rainy day problem, by putting that jigsaw puzzle right in the Palm of your hand.  That’s right, thanks to Spb, you can now solve jigsaw puzzles on your Windows Mobile Professional or Symbian S60 (5th Edition) device.  Hit the jump for the full press release, and watch out for my review coming soon.

Review: Spb Mobile Shell 3

[Note: This is a three-way, multi-site review.  Chris Spera (italics), Clinton Fitch (bold), and Doug Goldring (plain text)have all teamed up to review Mobile Shell 3 together.  It is being simultaneously posted on Gear Diary, and Just Another Mobile Monday.]

It is hard to believe that it has been only a little over two years (February 2007) since Spb Software House revolutionized the way we use our Windows Mobile devices.  Since that time, dozens of other software developers and OEMs such as HTC, Samsung, and Sony-Ericsson have adopted this same technique of replacing the user interface entirely.  Through all of this, however, Spb Software House has managed to stay one step ahead of all the others by constantly refining and updating Mobile Shell.  And just when it looked like some of the other shell-type programs might be gaining a foothold, Spb ups the ante again with version 3 of their award winning program.  You are really going to want to sit down, hit the jump, and enjoy the ride for this one.
