Review: Sony Reader PRS-505. Why I May Never Buy Another Book Again
Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 11 2008 - 158 views
There. I said it. after using this ebook reader for only a few days, I have already decided to phase out paper and ink books. This is no rash decision, mind you. I am an avid book lover. I have shelves in every room in the house, boxes of books in the basement. Add to that the fact I have spent the last few years decrying ebooks: there is no unified format, the screens are not good for reading, the screens are too small, the list goes on. So, I admit to being a bit apprehensive about trying this one. My apprehension, however, quickly turned to delight as I found that every concern I had previously raised was addressed in here. It is light, easy to read, and the library is enormous. But I am getting ahead of myself.

New Sony Reader PRS-700…Now With Touch Screen
Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 03 2008 - 29 viewsIsn’t this the way it always works. Just when I finally broke down and bought myself an ebook reader (the Sony PRS-505), they go and announce an upgrade. And this one looks pretty slick. The new PRS-700 ebook reader from Sony is the first to feature a full touch screen, so you can come even closer to the real experience of reading a book…without actually reading a book. Instead of pressing a button, a quick swipe across the screen will turn the page. It comes with a stylus and on-screen keyboard, but is otherwise pretty similar looking to the PRS-505 (which I will be reviewing soon.)
The PRS-700 is expected to be available before the holiday shopping season gets into full swing for approximately $400.

Meet David Farrow and the Sony Reader Marathon
Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 28 2008 - 37 viewsHave you ever heard of David Farrow? Probably not. who is he? well, let’s start with who he was. A dyslexic young kid with Attention Deficit Disorder. What does this have to do with the Sony Reader? Well, it seems that Farrow has long since overcome these challenges and become a World-renowned speed reader, as well as a Guinness World Record holder for memory. That is part 1.
Part 2 starts with the designation of October as the Sony Electronics “Reader Revolution.” This brand new program is designed to, “combat a nationwide decline in reading, particularly among young people.”
In order to raise awareness and help celebrate the Sony Electronics Reader Revolution, Farrow is going to spend 30 days (720 hours) living in this storefront window, reading books on his Sony Reader (and boy am i jealous). For every page he turns, Sony will give an eBook library of 100 classic titles to a U.S. school.
Read on for more details from the press release. And watch this space for my full review of the Sony Reader 505.
