Celebrate Earth Day with AU, Sharp & the Pandas

jamm_save_the_pandas2

Today is Earth Day!!!  Make sure to go out and do something nice for the environment like:  use a ceramic mug instead of a disposable coffee cup, recycle your newspaper and soda cans, ride your bike to work instead of driving.  Not only will you feel good about yourself, but you will be making a panda happy.  What can be better than that?!!  Speaking of helping our friends the pandas, take a look at this slick new phone from AU (KDDI) and Sharp.  It has a solar panel that charges the phone.  Ten minutes of sunlight will give you one minute of talk time or 2 hours of stand-by.  Plus, it is also water-proof.  To me, this is the perfect phone for the beach.  Lots of sun, and no worries if it gets splashed.  The phone is scheduled to be released in Japan in June.  Let’s hope this little beauty makes it to the US.

Of course, check out a few cute panda pics after the break.

Metro: Saving the Pandas One Can at a Time

jamm_save_the_pandas1

How many people eat while using their laptop or netbook?  Just admit, its all of you.  I have even been brave enough to eat cereal while using the computer.  What can I say, I live on the edge sometimes.  However, this means that our keyboards can get a little extra dirty.  I am always amazed, or should I say disgusted, with the amount of  ‘stuff’ that I remove from my keyboard via that all important can of air.  For being a simple item, I find the can of air is a must have for electronics.   BUT, since it is disposable, the empty can is just one more thing for the landfill.  Now, Metro comes to the rescue with their DataVac Electric Duster.  This handy little device is perfect for cleaning keyboards, cameras, or any small little spot.  It is made of steel, and comes with a 0.75HP motor with a single stage fan.  The Duster also comes with several attachments:  air-pin pointer, air concentrator nozzle, air-flare nozzle, and a 4 piece detailing tool kit.  I only see one downside to this product, the price.  It retails for $59.99. I think that might be a little too expensive for most people.  However, it does help reduce garbage, and in the long run, it will save you money.  So, sacrifice for the Pandas!!!  Plus, check out the cute panda pic after the break.

Motorola Renew – Looking Out for the Pandas

jamm_save_the_pandas

Motorola has developed a completely environmentally friendly phone.  Why?  Well, because we all need to do our part to make our world a better place, and they love pandas.  The Motorola Renew is made of plastic comprised of recycled plastic bottles, and is 100% recyclable.  Motorola even includes a pre-paid envelope to use to recycle your old cell phone.  It can be any brand of phone or accessory, and is completely free.  Plus, the Renew has no carbon footprint.  No, they are not made by magic, even though that would be cool.  Through an alliance with Carbonfund.org, Motorola offsets the carbon dioxide required to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone through investments in renewable energy sources and reforestation.  One of the reforestation projects takes place in China, and we all know who is excited about that. (Pandas!!!)  Motorola reduced its packaging by 22%, and is using only 100% post-consumer recycled paper products for the box and all materials inside.  All I can say is Wow!!!  I think what Motorola is doing is wonderful.  They are not only re-using material, but they are donating to a cause that works to create clean energy and save our forests.  Two Thumbs Up!!!  For all the tech specs on the Renew, check out their site.
