Verizon Introduces Smartphone Upgrade Fee

Verizon Logo

According to Trefis, Verizon is following after the heels of AT&T.  After AT&T upped its activation fee from $18 to $36 for phone upgrades recently, Verizon now is following suite with a $30 fee for all phone upgrades beginning April 22.  Carriers are doing this for relief on phone subsidies.  With this coming into effect soon, and if you were thinking about upgrading your phone, now may potentially be the best time to upgrade to save a few bucks.

Review: Sprint / Nextel Motorola Titanium

After several months of testing, I have finally reached a verdict on the Motorola Titanium.  This Android-powered phone is the first push to talk capable phone.  Being my first Android phone, I was going app store crazy and seeing just what Android can do.  Using this phone since August, I have found out that this phone is geared towards businesses where push to talk and email are essential.  As with any smartphone, there are pros and cons…let’s take a deeper look at the Motorola Titanium.

Rumor: HTC HD3 Running Windows Phone 7 Leaked

Admittedly, this is just a rumor, but one that I for one really like reading.  Especially when coming from my platform provider of choice and it is something that looks like it would make competitors cry…

The rumor mill is definitely going to be running overtime from now through the release of Windows Phone 7 devices, and this is an oh so good one to start with.

It seems that HTC might be preparing the HD3, running Windows Phone 7.  The rumored specs, well, you be the judge:

  • 4.5″ WXGA Super AMOLED multi-touch display
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
  • 720p HD video recording
  • 1080p HD playback
  • Wi-Fi / Bluetooth
  • 3G / 4G connectivity
  • 32GB microSD support
  • 1GB RAM / 1GB ROM
  • 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor
  • 1800 mAh battery
  • 115mm x 65mm x 10mm

Now if that comes true, that really is something to write home about.

Question of the Day: Do you turn your cell phone off?

Question of the Day:  Do you turn your cell phone off?

My Touch Pro awakens itself at 6 am and turns itself in for bed at 8 pm, thanks to a few little scripts.  With a little one in the house, paired along with the fact that I don’t like to talk to anyone on the phone after a certain time of the day, it seems logical to have the phone turn off.  It saves battery capacity for something more meaningful.

When, or does, your phone go completely off?  Hit the comments and share your thoughts with us!

Dare I Say, The Samsung Wave is Going to Make Waves

Everyone loves a good pun, right?!  Well, if not, rest assured that some still find humor in them.  That’s the only excuse I can offer for the subject line.

Now, on to a more serious tone…

Call me crazy, but upon first hearing of the Samsung Wave and learning that it would run a NEW proprietary operating system called Bada, I was skeptical.  Did the world really need one more mobile operating system to choose from, providing fuel to the “my handheld operating system is better than your handheld operating system” playground mentality that we all love so much?  Well, a bit of my skepticism has been lifted.

When wanting an honest, non-biased look at how the hardware and operating system of a device stack up against the competition, I generally look to Shaun at PDA-247.com.  He’s usually spot on, and if he is right in this case, the Samsung Wave and Bada operating system really might make some waves in the world of mobile computing.  He’s put together a four part review, which you can find here (part 1), here (part 2), here (part 3) and oh, here (part 4).
