Nokia Announces Its New Flagship, The Nokia N97

Posted by: khouryrt on Dec 02 2008 - 55 views

For more than a year now, everyone has been craving Nokia’s follow-up to its ultimate N95 handset. The N96 was announced and fell well short of people’s expectations.  Everybody  was expecting something “big” from Nokia, and they finally delivered it today at Nokia World.  Here comes the Nokia N97, a perfect all-round handset that brings so many new offerings to the table, it makes you wonder where we have come from and where we are now.

The Nokia N97 is a slide-out tilt screen Qwerty Nseries device from Nokia, running Symbian S60 5th edition. This means that it’s from the new wave of touchscreen S60 devices, and on that note it sports a 3.5inch TFT display with up to 16 million colors and a 16:9 widescreen 640×360 pixels resolution. It’s the first Nseries device from Nokia to have a Qwerty keyboard, the first to sport a touchscreen and the first to have a high-resolution display. It’s also the first Nseries device to offer a customizable standby screen, with add-on widgets like email, application shortcuts, social networks, calendar, weather…

FireFox for Mobile: You Lucky So and So!

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 18 2008 - 39 views

I’ve been waiting rather impatiently for some news or a an alpha from Mozilla, on their new mobile browser. Today, I find out that I have the wrong device, to get an early look at FireFox for Mobile. It’s not often I find myself rolling on the floor screaming, like a child in the supermarket, denied that sugary treat.
Fennec_logo1
so it looks like, if you’ve got a Nokia internet tablet, the N800 or N810, you are going to be able to take this for a spin around the block, before me.

How would you like to be among the first to get touchy-feely with the next mobile browser everyone’s talking about? Mozilla’s release of the Firefox for Mobile alpha code, code-named Fennec, grants that wish to users of the Nokia N810 and N800 Internet tablet (installation details here)

So if you’ve got one of these devices, let us know when you install the browser, so we can fume some more over our lack of a Nokia communicator! But wait there’s more, you can download a version that you can have a look at on your

Computer, no matter what flavour, a very small reprieve for all of us!

Nokia, Maps and Rumours …

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Aug 20 2008 - 15 views

The Lonely Planet series of travel books have been top sellers for yonks, accessing them from a mobile device, not via an e-reader app, is a leap forward.

In an effort to help travellers everywhere, Nokia and Lonely Planet have teamed up to distribute Lonely Planet content via Nokia Maps.  Travellers can purchase and download the city guides so that they have information at their fingertips whilst they are on the road.

and BGR are showing off some images of what is supposed to be the new Nokia N 76,

Very nice looking candy bar,the N79. It’s faintly similar to the N82, and supposedly has a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, and a 5-megapixel camera beneath with flash. BGR suggests we may learn more on Monday, from Nokia itself.

Nozukiane? What The….

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Aug 03 2008 - 8 views

Well after my last post it seems Nokia and Microsoft are ganging up on me. Never have an opinion, it’ll come back to bite you in the butt. By the way I’m not paranoid…………… Are you lookin’ at me!

image via pocket PC thoughts! Anyway, what would a partnership between Nokia and “The Zune Team” make you start imagining, No No No, don’t say it!

This has nothing to do with device manufacture, it’s about integrating the “Zune Marketplace” into the Nokia/S60 platform.

"Nokia is currently working with the Zune team on integration of Zune Marketplace content according to a well placed source within Microsoft. The joint development is directed at content delivery rather than a hardware device according to the source. It has long been assumed by many tech followers that Zune content and software would find it’s way onto Windows Mobile devices, thereby offering competition to the unfortunately popular iPhone. The interesting thing about the Nokia Zune partnership is that Nokia does not support Windows Mobile. It appears Microsoft may be developing a two front war against the iPhone, namely Windows based smart phones and more abundant ‘non-smart’ phones."

What does it say to me, M$ is looking to increase it’s revenue via digital music licensing, on other platforms. When Jack posted this today at ExperienceMobility.net, probably like many, I think of a Zune phone, but really it’s M$ trying to gain a greater foothold in the online music world.

Are we witnessing the death of the physical CD, mobile devices lacking optical drives. Promotion for more and more online stores, and limitations. You either buy from one or the other!

Who’s going to be the first to license the cloud as we are now calling it?

Taking Off With The Nokia Pilots

Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 23 2008 - 8 views

sshot-1

Coming soon to the Internet near you….

No, this is not taking place in a galaxy far, far away…in fact, it is coming right to your Internet in just two short months.  In September 2008, Nokia will unveil and begin recruiting for their new Pilot program.  They aren’t saying much about what all this will entail.  All their website has to offer is:

Nokia Pilots gives you a unique opportunity to get involved in Nokia’s creative process. Get an insider’s perspective by taking an active role in the development and testing that will help shape Nokia’s next generation of products and services. Your input and suggestions will help us develop new ideas that will be put into action as we strive to create the best products and services possible. Nokia believes that the best way to get better is by working together.

Sounds intriguing.  Could this be a program for some lucky users to test out the latest and greatest Nokia phones (ooh-ooh, pick me!) or operating system?  Or could it be just a revap of their current software beta program.  Check out the Nokia Pilots page this September to sign up and learn more.  And if you get in, be sure to check back and tell us all about it.
