The HD2 and I

image

I was all excited to get the HD2. I was at the TMo store on the 24th and apparently was lucky enough to get one. I am upgrading from a Treo 680. The HD2 is all that they say it is EXCEPT for the keyboard(s). I love the size of the screen as it’s great for everything you do on it. However, the keyboard is waaaay too sensitive and it’s too easy to make a mistake, especially when you have to enter a password – like on a couple of applications I have (mostly because they are portrait only). I am used to the Treo’s keyboard – even with my “big” fingers – it works.

For me the HD2 keyboard is an exercise in frustration, to the point I am considering returning it! As the girl at TMo said: I have 14 days (from the 24th) to return it. And THAT would not be a good day… but I primarily use my phone for business and when I need to enter some data I don’t have the time or patience to fuss with a touchy keyboard. I might take another look at the Touch Pro2! I wish I could get my hands on the N900 too.

At this point, for me, this is the Achilles’ hill of the HD2… what’s your experience?

QOTD: What Is The Best Phone on the Market?

Question of the Day

Question of the Day:  What is the Best Phone on the Market?
Today’s question comes from one of our readers, where he asks what us here at JAMM consider the best phone on the market.  I’m going to list my thoughts below, and have asked my fellow JAMMers to join on the comments.
Up front, I’ve got to say:  I like Windows Mobile while some don’t.  So my phone of choice is going to be my HTC Touch Pro.  It’s the best device I’ve ever owned.  While there are better devices, such as the Touch Pro 2 and HD2, I’ve never used them and therefore can’t directly comment.
I love the VGA screen, the amount of storage and the form factor.  It has a nice feature set, with wifi, bluetooth, GPS and a decent camera.  Most of the time, it lives in a holster that doesn’t expose the keyboard, so I can’t comment on using it.   I’m a stylus person, but the touch screen does give the ability to use fingers when one wants (read smudges).
I’ve also used and loved the Palm Centro for anyone in the Palm OS fan base.  Not a huge Blackberry fan and I don’t understand the fuss over the iPhone, so Windows Mobile it is for me, and the Touch Pro will hopefully last until somehow a Touch Pro 2 arrives in my hands!
Let us know what you think in the comments below.  I’ve asked our fellow JAMM editors and writers to share their thoughts in the comments below, so be sure to check them out.  Leave yours as well!

SPB Keyboard Update 4.1.1 released

I’ve said before “I’m an SPB software fan”, so any news of an update to a SPB application is a joy to me. I got news today that the best finger friendly SIP I’ve ever used has gained an update.

When I reviewed this SIP last year I was so impressed that I actually compared it to the iPhone SIP, and this update brings no change to  this keyboard, except that it’s smoother and better. Producing this kind of SIP for devices with predominantly resistive touch screens at the moment is a feat that almost defy’s the hardware limitations. If you are still using a device without a hardware keyboard you might want to check this out, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Check out the update details Here

Review: SPB Keyboard 4

I am definitely a self professed SPB Software fanboy, I love their software, and I make no bones about it. That fact though, doesn’t make me biased, if they serve up a lemon, I’m gonna purse my lips and say yuck!

Now I’ve still got SPB Full Screen Keyboard loaded on my device, and it was the earliest attempt at a finger friendly keyboard for WinMo.

The keyboard is one of the most important aspects of human interfacing with a mobile device.  The award-winning SPB Full Screen Keyboard was first released back in 2002, and is one of Spb’s flagship products with more than a six-year-long history of success.  This finger-friendly on-screen keyboard came out way before the iPhone notion of usability, but still accumulated tens of thousands of loyal customers from all over the world.

OK the need for a finger friendly SIP has considerably reduced, iPhone has it, but most people are opting for devices with hardware keyboards, but for those of us who can’t afford to update this is looking like very good news. Hit the link below to see why I think so!
