Vista tuning guide available because you’ll need it.
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jul 31 2008 - 22 views
You have to love it when someone has nothing else to do now but blog. Why? Well, because this typically affords them the time to find diamonds out there you’d never really think to go looking for on your own - something you wouldn’t had even have realized might be there. Case in point, one of the most recent posts from James over at JKOTR. Seems James has been bit like many of us by the fact that Visturd sorry… VISTA … is a huge resource hog. Fortunately James is now a full time blogger and now has enough time to do some researching and come across this very new gem from Microsoft. (Seems even they know Vista eats memory for breakfast and craps out Intel for lunch)…
You have probably seen any number of articles on the web and in print magazines that tell you how to optimize or tune Windows Vista to provide better performance for providing a better user experience.’ Vista does a lot of things in the background and most of these articles involve turning off some of those background tasks or services as Microsoft calls them so that they are not hogging resources.’ Vista can be improved through this method but it is not something that the uninitiated should start doing willy-nilly as you can really hose things up in a big way by doing them incorrectly.’ That is why Microsoft has jumped into the tuning game and released their own Vista Performance and Tuning Guide.’

Google Maps 2.2 for Windows Mobile Released
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jul 31 2008 - 46 viewsGoogle Maps 2.2 for Windows Mobile Released:
Looks like Google has yet again updated the Google Maps application for Windows Mobile. Given this is one of my most used applications on the iPhone and it was definitely one of my most used on WinMo - I figured it may warrant letting you fine folks know as well.
According to Clinton and the information page this latest update adds transit functionality to the program which now allows you to check public transportation schedules in more than 50 cities around the world.
I did a bit of testing this morning with it here in Dallas and it works fantastically well.”All you have to do to access the Transit information is choose Transit under the Direction Menu.
Google Maps 2.2 is free-of-charge and you can grab it at http://m.google.com/maps from your WinMo powered device.

HTC Touch Diamond gets FCC approval with US 3G HSDPA!
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jul 29 2008 - 34 views
Come on … you know you’ve been waiting for this one. Well, at least I know of one person (cough cough DOUG cough) who’s got his eye on this “jewel” of a device. Reviews are all over the place for this thing so I won’t bore you on those bits, and I’m sure you know that a shall not be named place on the web gives you a way to unlock the 850Mhz band on the euro versions, but it looks like the wait for a “real” US version may not be much longer as the FCC has given the green light to the Diamond. No word if you can expect a carrier to pick this up and subsidize the costs …

Brighthand reviews the Blackberry Curve 8830
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jul 22 2008 - 64 views
While definitely not something that’s “right up my alley” the Blackberry Curve has always seemed to pique my curiosity. I’m not sure what it is about the Curve … but something about the device calls out to me. Of course I’m perfectly happy with my iPhone and have absolutely no intentions of letting it go in favor of the Curve - I guess I’m just admiring from a distance as it were.
Anyway, in case you’re one of the folks with a decent sized phone budget, and a fan of the RIM … Brighthand has posted a nice (not in depth) review of the Curve from a very day-to-day perspective.
The BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Sprint is not a fancy device, nor is it extra special in any real particular way. However, it is solid, well built, and has the kind of ability to just blend into day-to-day activities without requiring too much in the way of tweaking and modifying the default setup.

You Can Help OtterBox Beat the Breast Cancer Clock!
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jun 26 2008 - 112 viewsTypically I don’t post a lot of the press release stuff we get here at the site, mainly because you’ll see it all again and again. But sometimes, no matter how many times you’ve seen the message its important enough that it needs to be repeated. We all know someone who either has cancer, has beaten cancer, or lost the fight with cancer. Personally I’ve had family, friends and co-workers who’ve been touched by it and I’ve seen it devastate lives ever since I was kid. I’ve not had to fight it myself, but its a topic that’s very inter-twined with my life as I’ve experienced it from start to finish (both successfully and not). So, naturally when I see a chance to bring light into the topic I tend to jump on it.
Today the message comes from our friends at OtterBox. You may or may not have seen these pink cases from OtterBox, but they would like you to know that if you’re considering a new case for your iPhone or iPod Nano (3rd Gen), you should consider buying one that helps support a great cause.
Every three minutes, there is a new diagnosis of breast cancer in the United States. By the time you finish reading this, one more person will begin the battle for life and the fight against the disease. OtterBox has partnered with the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to help increase awareness of breast cancer and promote the message that early detection saves lives.
Specializing in protective cases for technology and valuables, OtterBox now offers limited edition pink “Strength” cases for the iPhone and nano 3rd generation (coming soon for 3G iPhone). With an online order of an OtterBox “Strength” case, 10% of the purchase price will be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to support access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved.

World Power(ed).
Posted by: ssschmidt on May 05 2008 - 236 views
As with all (or most) things tech, you gotta have power. With most of today’s devices, if it wasn’t around the world in 8 hours, things could get difficult. As a worker in a hotel, I will be the first to tell you that things here in the “states” aren’t the same as across the pond. Can’t believe how many times I’ve been asked for one of those European dodads..
