Opera Mini 4.2 beta released!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Nov 12 2008 - 17 views
I’ve been using opera Mini for a while on a crapola Samsung E250, the best solution for email on the go, the native WAP browser that came with the phone is really inadequate for everyday internet use. For those of you that have Java enabled handsets of any kind, it’s worth a look.
Opera Mini 4.2 beta installs next to any existing stable Opera Mini version on your device and will not overwrite any of your data.
Alternatively, you may download Opera Mini to your computer for a manual installation.
- Standard Opera Mini 4.2 beta JAR (124 KB)
- Standard Opera Mini 4.2 beta JAD (4 KB)
- BlackBerry Opera Mini 4.2 beta ZIP archive (104 KB)
- Palm (requires JVM installed) Opera Mini 4.2 beta PRC (316 KB)
Obviously it works with BlackBerry and Palm equipped phones as well. If you haven’t tried it what’s stopping you, it’s free, you’ve got to love a bargain like that

Review: USB Fever, MP3/PC Small Sound Box
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 13 2008 - 36 viewsSo work is crazy, and I have had this item, an external speaker unit, from USB Fever, sitting in my locker at work, and whilst I waited for things to cook today, I thought I’d try it out rather than twiddle my thumbs, or reading my news feeds. One thing that got me with these speakers right away, was the fact that this is the first time I’ve gotten anything from USB Fever that was not in a generic/plain box. You will note the condition of the packaging I’m sure, the quaint Asian to English translation, and the somewhat worn look of the packaging. I’ve never received anything from USB Fever for review, that has not come in an unpadded envelope. Thus the worn look, postal workers don’t wear kid gloves as we know. Considering that, I’ve never received anything from them broken either, testimony to the sturdiness, and their judgment in saving on packaging. So just to say it cost HK$ 22.20/US$ 2.99 to send this, when the item retails for US$ 14.99, it cuts their profit down quite a bit. I know in the photo above it looks pretty dinky, but using it today I was quite happy with how it worked with internet streaming radio on my axim in a pretty noisy environment.
So What’s in the box?

Review: Apple iPod Touch 16 GB. Part 5: iTunes and Conclusion
Posted by: dgoldring on Aug 30 2008 - 137 views
The final component of the iPod Touch puzzle is iTunes. Of course, this is the connection between your computer and your iPod Touch. And I will admit that this is a big reason I put off purchasing an iPhone for so long. I have never been a fan of iTunes, and I really do not like the idea of using a single proprietary system to handle my media. I much prefer other media players which allow you to use multiple formats and even drag and drop your media onto your device. The combination of the iPod Touch interface and the App Store, however, was ultimately too much for me to overlook. ITunes became a necessary evil and I took the plunge. So, let’s take a closer look at the interface that launched 1000 iPods, and then on to a few other miscellaneous items which I did not mention in previous articles.

Navigon Announces the 7200T Premium GPS Device
Posted by: dgoldring on Aug 26 2008 - 20 views
I have written quite a bit about the Navigon line of GPS devices. I’ve been extremely impressed by the offerings in the past. This latest entry, however, has the potential to complete blow me away. In addition to all of the fantastic features Navigon has offered in the past, they are now introducing Landmark View.
Landmark View3 joins Reality View as part of the unique 3-D interface that Navigon GPS devices have always offered. Landmark View will display hundreds of richly-textured 3D landmarks across the U.S. and Canada like the Empire State Building and the White House.
The new Navigon 7200T is expected to be available in the United States and Canada in October 2008. It will retail for $449.

Get Yer SkyFire Here!
Posted by: dgoldring on Aug 21 2008 - 37 views
We’ve told you before about the fantastic new Windows Mobile web browser, Skyfire. Though it is still in beta form, it keeps getting better, with recent additions including a pretty good weather package, and support for Microsoft’s Silverlight video service. This one won’t last long, so if you are one of the many who have been anxiously waiting for an invitation to the beta, this is your chance. Just head over to the Skyfire site, sign up for the beta and enter promotion code “Michael8”. That’s it. The offer will expire August 30, though, so stop reading and head on over there before it is too late.
