Unboxing the HTC Touch Pro (Sprint Edition)
Posted by: dgoldring on Nov 15 2008 - 119 views[Note: This is a joint article being written by Doug, Lauren, and Sue. Doug's comments will appear in normal typeface, Lauren's in bold, and Sue's will be italicized. We are also simultaneously posting it on both JAMM and Gear Diary.]
Doug: I had a nice surprise in the mail the other day when I tore open a Fed Ex envelope to find the HTC Touch Pro. By coincidence, as you may have noticed, Lauren and Sue (for you Gear Diary readers, they are both contributors at JAMM) both also picked up the HTC Touch Pro earlier this month. So, we thought it would be fun for all of us to share our thoughts together on this new device. The Touch Pro is the latest offering from HTC and the successor to my previous phone, the Sprint Mogul. We’ll take a closer look at all of the features of the phone, including the new Touch Flo 3D interface. Today, though, we just wanted to take a quick look at what is in the box and share a few preliminary thoughts.

Posted by: Heather on Nov 13 2008 - 65 views
One of HTC’s newest phones, the Fuze, is available at AT&T starting Nov. 11. The Fuze is just packed will the latest and greatest the smartphone world has to offer. First, it works with AT&T’s 3G and EDGE networks, so fast internet and e-mail are at your fingertips. Not only can you use 3G in the US, but it also works in over 60 countries that have 3G networks of their own, like Japan and South Korea. Regular phone and internet usage is available in over 150 countries, so this is a great choice for a world traveler. What other fun things are packed under the hood of the Fuze? Its a big list: GPS, WiFi, 3.2 megapixel camera, Push to Talk, AT&T Video Share, Qwerty keyboard, and Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate. The Bluetooth 2.0 allows you to be connected with up to 6 devices at a time. 6!!! Of course, it has HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface, as well as Windows Mobile 6.1. The Fuze is a great balance of business and personal use. On one side you have e-mail and MS Office, and on the other is video clips and XM mobile radio. Overall, its a very tempting new toy.
Pricing: $299.99 with 2 year contract

HTC Launches Touch Pro On Sprint: Christmas Comes In October
Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 24 2008 - 101 viewsI just got an email from the folks over at HTC today. It seem that the much anticipated HTC Touch Pro has finally landed at Sprint. This is the one I, and many of you, have been waiting for. Its features include:
- a five-row, slide-out QWERTY keyboard f
- 2.8 inch display
- built-in 3.2 megapixel camera including an optical auto-focus lens
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- advanced wireless capabilities (EV-DO Rev. A)
- expandable storage capabilities with a microSD card slot
- a business card scanner application
- auto sensor screen pivoting
As HTC says, this is the perfect device to balance both your professional and personal lives. The HTC Touch Pro is priced at $299.99 with a two-year subscribtion. It also requires the Everything plan with data. Customers will be able to purchase the device in select national retailers beginning the week of Oct. 26 and in all Sprint sales channels, including online at www.sprint.com, 1-800-SPRINT1 and Sprint Stores, on Nov. 2.
So, is this on your short list for your next device? I have been looking at this and the Sprint Instinct, but I am leaning heavily back toward the Touch Pro. Hopefully, I will be able to land one by the end of the year. How about you? Is this the device you have been waiting for? Or is something else capturing your fancy? Wait. Before you answer, click past the jump for the full release from HTC.

Bad News Sprint Fans: Touch Pro Delayed
Posted by: dgoldring on Oct 17 2008 - 22 viewsBad news for you Sprint fans out there who have been waiting to upgrade to the HTC Touch Pro. It looks like you will have to wait a few extra weeks longer than expected for the much heralded replacement for the HTC Mogul. Instead of releasing the phone this weekend, as had been initially indicated, they have now announced that the Touch Pro will not be released until late October or early November. It’s only a few weeks, so be patient. it sounds like the delay is not performance related, but, “to ensure we have adequate inventory in all channels before making the device commercially available.”
Whenever it is released, the Touch Pro is expected to fetch a whopping $299 with a two year contract. To be honest, I was hoping that the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro would come in at a lower price point, something closer to the $199 Apple iPod 3G I keep hearing about over at rival AT&T.

Video: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 13 2008 - 15 views
With all of the delays, non appearances, that the Xperia has had, it would be nice to think that it will be available somewhere, some time. Well a search of YouTube, found me a little glimpse of the X1, and I thought I’d share it with you guys. We know it’s a HTC made device, and there are some comparisons to another HTC device, namely the Touch Pro. When you’ll be able to get your hands on one, I throw my hands up in hope!

Everything’s coming up Android!
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 10 2008 - 25 viewsYou’d have to admit that the introduction of a new OS like Android is exciting. The fact that it’s an open system, welcoming developers to add to it’s functionality, with seemingly no limitations, says the sky’s the limit. So eventually you would think this will be a boon both to industry and personal users. Let’s face it, it’s not going to be a Blackberry, out of the box, and there are not going to be a range of great applications available for a while till the platform proves itself, and some of the more mainstream developers who already have experience with cross platform programming, decide to wade in to the mix.
There are a few, I don’t know how many,[I’m sure I know at least one person that’s got one and can’t say] people who already are Hands on with the G1. A forum member over at Android Community, has done what may be the first public review of the G1. Again, I’m sure this person will get their wrist slapped for this.
The real news though is that other manufacturers are going to pick up the OS and build appropriate devices. Even rumours that the Touch HD, [which isn’t coming to the US any time soon, WinMo flavoured] will somehow appear in an Android version, I’d like to see that. Anyway, twelve days to go so back to normal viewing…
