Push Gmail – Now On Windows Mobile
Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 30 2008 - 312 views
One of the biggest gripes I hear from Windows Mobile users is that there is no true way to get your Gmail pushed to your device. Sure, you can simulate something like this by setting Pocket Outlook to check your mail every 15 minutes. But really, this is not the same as push which alerts you as soon as a message hits your inbox.
Well, gripe no more (or for those of you who always have to have something to gripe about, find something else). A free Windows Mobile add-on from developer gmurray will now allow you to push your email from any IMAP service, directly to your device. And as everyone here knows, last year, Gmail started offering IMAP service, in addition to POP3.
You can download the program for free, here. But before you do, I will just warn you that it is still a Beta, so it may have some imperfections. For more information, you can also check out the developer’s blog and the program documentation. Enjoy!!!

Get Your FaceBook On With Windows Mobile
Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 19 2008 - 208 views
How many of you out there in JAMM-land are on Facebook? Probably quite a few. Heck, even JAMM is on FaceBook (and if you haven’t already, check us out, here). I use FaceBook quite bit. It is a fun way to keep up with some of my long lost friends. Heck, using FaceBook, I have even found friends from my childhood, high school, college. You name it. The problem arises, however, when I try to access FaceBook from my mobile device. That can be just plain painful. It really does not offer the same kind of access as your desktop at all, which can be pretty frustrating. Well, now two applications are offering to give you a much more enjoyable and useful FaceBook experience from your Windows Mobile device. So, let’s take a look at FriendMobilizer and Snap2Face and see how each can enhance your FaceBook experience.

Microsoft Live Search Mobile Updated
Posted by: dgoldring on Dec 27 2007 - 1,065 viewsIn all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I think we somehow managed to miss this one. Earlier this month (on December 18), Microsoft issued an update of its popular Live Search Mobile mapping program. Microsoft Live Search is well known for its ability to find local points of interest, create maps, and provide you with driving directions. It is extremely accurate with or without a GPS. According to the Virtual Earth/Live Maps blog, the new version includes:
- 1-click directions for all businesses and street addresses in U.S.
- Additional details for U.S. businesses, including neighborhood, business category, cuisine (restaurants) and hours of operation
- Photos and reviews for U.S. businesses
- Improved movie show times Instant Answers (we now show critics rating)
- Added interactivity to all maps (clicking on maps now zooms in/out to predefined levels, or advanced to the next waypoint for routing maps)
- Traffic & map Instant Answers
- Mobile search for the China market. Scopes offered are local (no maps, but coming soon), web, images, news and Spaces.
So, head on over to http://m.live.com/ (from your mobile browser) and download the latest Live Search directly to your Windows Mobile enabled device.
