Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 17 2008 - 16 views

netfrontBrowserWidgets Earlier in the year I took a Quick Look at the beta of the Netfront browser widget application, and whilst I was not thrilled with it, it did show potential. Well Access have announced the new community site for the Widgets. What’s new for potential users?

What’s New:

There’s an updated player for windows mobile and a few more widgets available. Most notably, there are developer tools, allowing anyone to create new widgets if they want to. Open Access! Click the link below to go to the Press release and the site.

Everything’s coming up Android!

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 10 2008 - 25 views

You’d have to admit that the introduction of a new OS like Android is exciting. The fact that it’s an open system, welcoming developers to  add to it’s functionality, with seemingly no limitations, says the sky’s the limit. So eventually you would think this will be a boon both to industry and personal users. Let’s face it, it’s not going to be a Blackberry, out of the box, and there are not going to be a range of great applications available for a while till the platform proves itself, and some of the more mainstream developers who already have experience with cross platform programming, decide to wade in to the mix.

There are a few, I don’t know how many,[I’m sure I know at least one person that’s got one and can’t say] people who already are Hands on with the G1. A forum member over at Android Community, has done what may be the first public review of the G1. Again, I’m sure this person will get their wrist slapped for this.
The real news though is that other manufacturers are going to pick up the OS and build appropriate devices. Even rumours that the Touch HD, [which isn’t coming to  the US any time soon, WinMo flavoured] will somehow appear in an Android version, I’d like to see that. Anyway, twelve days to go so back to normal viewing…

Android confirmed, Visits London!

Apparently the official announcement is looming, scheduled for September twenty third, The Android will officially emerge at a T-mobile event.

Over at Android community, it looks like they’re packing their bags and gearing up for the big event. Now some may say it’s a monster emerging, many have told me the available apps for Android are … lacklustre at the most, the enthusiasm with which many have met the iPhone SDK, primarily as a money maker, for an already established device, dwarves the development  reaction, for the, until now, rumoured Google phone. It’s like comparing Godzilla to a skink.

Now we’ve had an inkling that this was coming, and an idea of what the device will look like, but Google itself decided to trot out the OS early in London, for European consumption. The images of the unbranded phone/device do look something like this, but the subterfuge will be over next Wednesday, and I’ll be able to go back to my knitting undisturbed.
