What’s the Most Popular Phone For Web Browsing?
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Oct 17 2008 - 18 views
Lot’s of companies track, Internet usage from mobile phones, and incredibly the statistics show that Symbian/Linux based phones are the most used for net access. This may be surprising to most people, but seriously, if you think about it, Nokia’s phones seem to rule the handset market.
With service providers prepared to subsidise handsets on contracts, and most people’s need to save money, a lot of the non windows mobile, iPhone, models have been the norm for mobile phone preferences of the masses. Therefore you would not be surprised that the most popular, most used, phones used for internet browsing belong to the Motorola Razor family.
This statistic is pretty interesting: Not only does the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Razr continue to outsell the Apple iPhone, more people are using it to access to the mobile Web. So says AdMob, anyway, in a report of the ad impressions it gets from each handset across the 5,000-plus sites it serves.
AdMob releases a report each month about the mobile advertising space. The company has been providing statistics on mobile ads since September 2007. This month’s report sheds some interesting light on which phones are surfing the mobile Web the most. It ain’t the iPhone. In fact, the iPhone isn’t even in second place
With the advanced browsers available on the iPhone and windows mobile, it sort of seems odd, but then again, I’ve got a really simple samsung phone, with opera mini installed, and I do actually use it quite a bit for essentials, checking email, checking JAMM, and also going through my Google reader feeds. The fact that the Razr is still featuring so prominently in the mobile arena is probably the most surprising fact that comes out of this though.
