Spb releases Spb Online for 3G
Posted by: Ragart on Sep 03 2008Spb’s latest offering comes in the form of an online-centric shell for WM touch-screen devices. Finally, a good reason to have a 3G smartphone!
Spb Online takes the layout of Mobile Shell and throws it out to there to blanket the interwebs in sweet, finger-friendly love. Radio, TV, RSS feeds, weather, and games are all available to you at the touch of a button (although you need wi-fi or 3G for radio/tv to work well). They’ve even thrown a bit of online shopping capability in there for good measure, so you can easily shop for Spb’s other products and download trials right from your device. You can do all of this already with other programs, but this is the first time I’ve seen it all packaged so beautifully.
It’s only available for mobile operators right now, but you can pick this package up later this year for $30 or get a new phone with Spb Online pre-installed (carrier dependant). The radio should be available most anywhere, but I’m not sure how mobile TV will work. Don’t you need a subscription for that kind of thing?
The key thing here will likely be how carriers pick this up. If more carriers start picking this program up, it looks like a pretty decent portal through which ringtones, themes, and programs can be sold. Sounds like an App[le] Store I’ve heard about.

QuickLook: Cricket Laptop Stand [review]
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Sep 03 2008I’ve been sitting on this one for a while now and figured it was just about time to finally get it off my plate. I feel bad when stuff like this happens, because its not so much a fault of the product, but a fault of my own. Sometimes you just dread sitting down and writing a review about something. I’m not sure why it happens, but the Cricket Laptop Stand was definitely one of the ones that whooped my butt. So without further ado, here’s the much shorter than it should be quick look at the Cricket - one of last year’s top products demo’d at CES.
Straight out of the box you can see what makes the cricket different from most other laptop stands on the market - and NO it’s not that neon green color that threatens to blind you with brightness on a hot sunny day, it’s the extreme portability of the Cricket. This little stand is literally no longer than my hand and only about 2 inches wide when its folded up. If you’re mobile - there’s pretty much nowhere you can’t tote this thing around with you.

Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Blackjack 2
Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 03 2008I don’t know if we have a lot of Blackjack 2 users here at JAMM, or if they are just a very vocal group, but it seems like I get asked about this device more than any other Windows Mobile device. And the most common question is: When and where can I find the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for my Samsung Blackjack 2?
The answer: As Van Halen would say, Right Here, Right Now. Enjoy!

HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, Coming (Very) Soon To A Sprint Store Near You
Posted by: dgoldring on Sep 03 2008Rumors are swirling around the impending release of the CDMA versions of the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. According to this report which was unearthed by IntoMobile, the Touch Diamond is coming in mid-September, while the Touch Pro is due to be released October 19.
Looks like the Diamond will cost $549.99, but will be reduced to as little as $249.99 with a two year contract. The Touch Pro is $579.99, but will be reduced to $329.99 with a two contract.
Keep in mind, that despite the official-looking document in the image, this is all still firmly in the rumor category until we actually see devices in the store. Still, it is nice to know that these may be coming sooner rather than later.

New NAVIGON 2200t GPS Navigator
Posted by: Ragart on Sep 03 2008Yeah, I know there are about a Brazillion ways to navigate the roads – but how about navigating the roads with free, live traffic updates? Yeah, do you like that? Navigon hopes you do!
The new NAVIGON 2200t retails for $229 and helps you out by showing a real-time traffic view of the area you’re driving through. No more getting stuck in a jam. This feature is ready right out of the box (although you should probably put it in your car first – unless you open it there), and there’s no need for a subscription or a sign-up. The feature lasts for the lifetime of the product. Just set it up and evade traffic like the sly, super driver you were meant to be.
Other features include stuff you’ve heard about before: turn-by-turn instructions over voice, fewest clicks to a final destination, and favourite locations as Points of Interest on the map. So if you’re looking for a new GPS unit, but don’t wanna be tethered to a subscription for traffic updates, you might just wanna take a look at the 2200t.
For the rest of the details, hope over to the Navigon site.

i Rumours…
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Sep 03 2008Kevin Rose posted a picture of what might be the new iPod Nano, then Brandon shared a link with me, that indicated there was a company out there making cases to fit an iPod that resembles this form factor. Anyone recall the furor around the “fattie” the iPod ugly duckling? It turned out to be a swan didn’t it? ![]()
