The Official 2007 JAMM Essential Applications List
Posted by: dgoldring on Jan 14 2007 - 3,655 views
As we mentioned, at the end of last year, we had big plans, BIG PLANS, to bring you various lists of all of our favorite things (and not a raindrop on roses or whisker on kittens among them). Unfortunately, many of these lists did not get completed. As we were sitting around the JAMM board room, however, we realized that we would be remiss if we did not, at least, offer some of the programs which we have found that we (or some of us) could not live without. So, without further adieu, like a brown paper package tied up with string, here are a few of our favorite things: The JAMM Essential Applications List (in no particular order).

Quick Tips: Inbox mark all as read on your mobile….
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jan 02 2007 - 2,267 views
The bain of my existance. Email. Lots of it and no way to delete it.
Really this isn’t such a big problem if you are using Exchange … but if you’re like me and you pull in email from multiple sources (and some of them are POP3) you’ll notice that some accounts you can’t delete email remotely. Gmail (in my setup) is like this. If I delete an email from my mobile within an hour it’s back, so the solution is to mark them all as read. But what if you get 20 in an hour? Sort of annoying to have to manually mark them read one by one. Well not anymore.
Thanks to Dennis Quintela we have a solution. Check that - I have a solution you may still be screwed ![]()
Wow - That was mean. I can’t believe he said that.
Well, anyway follow the LINK and read about how to get this going. I do believe your device has to be 100% application unlocked for this to work. My BlackJack had to be anyway. I’ll have a post on that shortly if you need to know how to completely application unlock this device.

Using Your PDA Can Lead To A Better Relationship With Your Family — Here’s How To Do It!
Posted by: dgoldring on Jan 02 2007 - 496 views
The New Year has passed, the time of year when we all make resolutions which (we hope) will make us a better person for the coming year. Some of the most popular resolutions is to spend more time with the family (especially young children), do better at your job/get a raise or promotion, or generally use your time more effectively and efficiently.
Well, like Santa Clause at Christmas, Jaap Van Ekris at Modern Nomads heard these wishes and is here to help. He wrote an exceptional article detailing ways you can use the PDA to get the most out of the time you have and reserve as much time as possible to fulfilling your New Year’s Resolutions. So, head over to Modern Nomads, and learn how a PDA can help you become better organized, better at communicating and controlling your flow of communications, and save time. In fact, the only thing the article does not explain is how my Pocket PC will help me achieve my New Year’s resolution of eating less chocolate.

Real Mobile Device Management with MobiControl
Posted by: PatrickJ on Dec 14 2006 - 556 views![]()
MobiControl’s complete suite of remote device management and support tools continues to empower enterprises with the tools they need to centrally manage and support their mobile field forces.
Soti has released a new version of MobiControl - MobiControl v3.06 - and its feature set looks very impressive. Some of its key updated features include:
Over-the-Air Device Wipe: Delete data stored on a lost/stolen device.
Improved Lockdown: Permit end-users to only access approved web sites/programs.
Connection Modes: Devices can connect to servers persistently, on schedule, or when initiated by users.![]()
Performance: Enhanced performance on slow networks and improved battery life on cellular devices.
Package Dependencies: Enforce the order in which applications and settings are installed.
Device Side Scripts: Specify pre and post file synchronization scripts.
MobiControl really looks like a complete mobile device management solution. It offers far more than you can do via Exchange and its in-built device management tools. And if the Desktop PC model is anything to go by, I would not expect Microsoft to offer any complete device management solution to match products like MobiControl either. They will most likely leave this to other software vendors - and Soti looks to be one of the clear leaders in this field.
Another nice looking thing about MobiControl is its pricing model - which looks very reasonable and realistic, and starts with a minimum of 10 devices.
I have not (yet) tried MobiControl. I’d be interested to see whether there is any performance and / or stability hit for devices working with MobiControl.
If you’re managing a number of devices, this really looks like a solution that is worth looking at. For a full product tour, all the details and pricing info, visit:

Yes … I’ve read the 35 pages of posts and did myself a favor - I copied out everything that I personally found useful and some tweaks that I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose for later. I’ve got some more tips coming from other places and things I’ve found on my own so I’ll be adding some more over the next little while. I’ll leave a couple on the main page so you get an idea of what’s covered….
