Mobile Device Management - A Simple Outline
Posted by: PatrickJ on Aug 14 2007 - 954 viewsIn Brandon’s SecuBox review the other day, he noted (quite rightly) that security on mobile devices is far too often overlooked. That applies to all of us as individual users. Another area that often seems to be sadly lacking attention - probably even more so than with individuals - is mobile device management within companies and organizations.
Steve Reynolds at the Enterprise Mobility World site, has a great post up which provides a very clear and simple framework for tackling this subject. For stressed out IT managers trying to get a handle on this tricky subject, Steve’s article looks a great starting point.
Mobile Devices are getting increasingly sophisticated and as such should be treated no different to a laptop computer when it comes to mobile device management.
Check out Steve’s post HERE.
I discovered Steve’s site via a recommendation at Jason Langridge’s Mr. Mobile site. Have a look at that for some details on Steve’s background in the mobile arena.

Get The Most Out of Cingular - Tips From a Rep
Posted by: PatrickJ on Mar 07 2007 - 1,552 viewsSource: The Consumerist (spotted via a post at CrunchGear)
The Consumerist has a very cool article up called ‘7 Confessions of a Cingular Sales Rep’ - with some handy-looking tips on how to get the most out of your dealings with Cingular.
Here’s just one example:
Avoid contract extensions by changing your rate plan at a store. “If you want to change your rate plan, do it in a retail store instead of on-line or over the phone. Officially after 1/2 of your contract is over a rate plan change results in a contract extension, but I’ve never once seen that rule enforced in the store.”
If you’re with Cingular, this seems well worth a good once-over. See the full article HERE …

"Memory Full" *Insert Blood Curling Cry*
Yes, this has happened to me on a number of occasions when I had my camera phone’s tiny memory filled to capacity and I needed to get a picture of that very special moment. Vex me no more, my tiny memory chips, as I now have the keys to the vast hard drive in the sky - the internet.

Why re-invent the wheel … Homescreen guide published at PocketNow.com
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jan 31 2007 - 964 views
Honestly I had every intention of writing a guide myself, and I still might but for right now I don’t feel like re-inventing the wheel - Head on over to PocketNow.com and check out the (what I would call a beginners) guide to homescreen design. Now by the time it’s all over you won’t have anything like what you see above … but you’ll have a darned good start!!!
Seriously, this is very well written with some images and code examples to help you get started. And once you have your foot in the door … head on over to the Jamm Forums and show us what you’ve got - I’d love to see them!!
