MobiMate have a number of useful travel tools for PC, and today they have announced the release of WorldMate for Pocket PC. WorldMate is a travel utility application that let’s you, track your itinerary, flight information, check world weather and world times, has a suite of travel tools and international conversions. It’s available now and it’s free!

Los Angeles, CA (December 14, 2007) - WorldMate, Inc., the leading provider of mobile travel services for the road warrior and frequent flier, announced today the launch of its mobile travel solution for Windows Mobile Professional Pocket PCs at no charge to road warriors. As a result, it now supports all major smartphone platforms through its Freemium business model.
Subscribers across the globe can download the application for free from virtually any mobile device.

There are also premium services that require a subscription that costs,
US $74.95 a year. There are a lot of travel utilities out there, but I downloaded this, after looking at the press release, to have a look and I can survive without the premium services. I downloaded WorldMate to my Dell Axim x51v, via BT DUN, the cab is 7.5 Mb and it downloaded flawlessly. When I saw the size of the cab file, I was a little worried, but I was able to install to SD card without a problem, ( I install everything I can to the SD card to save device memory). I played with the application for about five minutes, and was sold. For a free program it offers a great range of tools that are not only handy for a traveller, it offers practical everyday tools. Hit the link to read an overview of what the free WorldMate has to offer

WM6 Standard: Creating New Documents Workaround

Posted by: tjchan on Apr 26 2007 - 1,897 views

windows mobile

According to Jason Langridge, users of Windows Mobile 6 Standard have a work around of the built in limitation which prohibits users from creating new documents. By creating a new Excel or Word document on a PC and then transferring this blank file over to the mobile device, one can then use "Save As…" to save to a new filename of one’s choice. With workarounds like these, Microsoft really should have just let users create new documents.

Windows Mobile Device Center - OneCare Firewall Configuration

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Feb 13 2007 - 1,684 views

What a bloody nightmare … You’d think 3 products from Microsoft (Vista, Windows Mobile Device Center, and OneCare) could all get along.

Fought with this junk for a while before I got it working, and since I was too lazy to write up a How-To, I thought I’d pass this one from Chris De Herrera along to you.

Good luck!!!

Quick Tip - Getting Out of A Cellphone Contract

Posted by: PatrickJ on Jan 19 2007 - 1,526 views

Well, not so much a tip - but an online resource that’s out there for you if you’re looking to ditch your cell contract - at Cellswapper.com.

I’d heard about this site before and always sort of forgotten to make a note of the name - spotted it mentioned again the other day on the Lifehacker site and thought I’d give us all a quick reminder that this site is out there for all of our ‘I Hate Verizon / Sprint / Cingular AT&T / T-Mobile And I’m Not Gonna Take It Anymore’ sort of needs.

Or even just for all of us who end up lusting after some awesome new smartphone, but thinking it can’t be had because we’re tied to ABC carrier for the next 3 years and they don’t do that model.

The way it works seems pretty straightforward:

You pay a one-time fee to Cellswapper (9.95 to 14.95, depending on what level you choose), post your phone, and then you switch plans with someone else. Of course, there’s a lot of details that go along with all that, but overall, it looks to be a tremendously useful service for anyone who’s not happy with their current plan.

For all the details and to set yourself free from a contract you need out of, check it out at:

Quick Tips: Inbox mark all as read on your mobile….

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jan 02 2007 - 2,267 views

The bain of my existance. Email. Lots of it and no way to delete it.

Really this isn’t such a big problem if you are using Exchange … but if you’re like me and you pull in email from multiple sources (and some of them are POP3)  you’ll notice that some accounts you can’t delete email remotely. Gmail (in my setup) is like this. If I delete an email from my mobile within an hour it’s back, so the solution is to mark them all as read. But what if you get 20 in an hour? Sort of annoying to have to manually mark them read one by one. Well not anymore.

Thanks to Dennis Quintela we have a solution. Check that - I have a solution you may still be screwed

Wow - That was mean. I can’t believe he said that.

Well, anyway follow the LINK and read about how to get this going. I do believe your device has to be 100% application unlocked for this to work. My BlackJack had to be anyway. I’ll have a post on that shortly if you need to know how to completely application unlock this device.
