Symbian can soon join VoIP coolness?
Posted by: Ragart on Sep 29 2008 - 18 viewsWell this isn’t really news a program per se (per who?), but an engine. Regardless, it’s still something exciting for the Symbian crowd. EMCC Software has developed a VoIP engine for the Symbian platform, which apparently did not have one until now. This hopefully means Symbian phones will be seeing Skype-like programs to take advantage of wi-fi or unlimited data plans to save you some minutes. I’m actually not sure what they mean by “engine”…whether that engine comes with any sort of program, or whether they’re waiting for devs to use the engine in a program?
Maybe you can figure it out in the full press release after the jump.

I want a Samsung Innov8!
Posted by: Ragart on Aug 10 2008 - 37 views
Ok, this isn’t breaking news, but we don’t cover all that much Symbian here at JAMM so lemme raise our Symbian post count by another 1.0. Blogs are calling it the top spec Symbian phone. I have never played with a Symbian an extended period of time, but this makes me really want to get my hands on one. I’d spend hours gawking at the back of the phone – who cares about the specs or the front or the features! This thing really looks like hardware, and not like a toy. I like that in an über expensive gadget
It’s looking pretty cool, especially with an 8MP camera. Yeah, I know, the megapixel race is a sham, but this thing can take 30fps vid at VGA resolution and 120fps at QVGA. The device also rocks 16GB internal storage and can handle 16GB more with microSDHC, which probably works out nicely with the 3.5mm jack for headphones (I wish Windows Mobile would do this…).
I remember trying out a Samsung phone a few years back and not liking the UI, but with Symbian (which is a cool mystery to me) this thing has just rocketed up my list of “awesome, I am so buy — oh my god look at the price tag, never mind” list. I’ll keep a look out for a review to see how this thing does – it’s supposedly out this August in Europe.

We’ve covered the story before, but just dropping a quick line to notify you game lovers out there that HeroCraft’s Hexxagon Labs has been released on the Palm, Windows Mobile, and Symbian (S60, S60 v3, UIQ, UIQ v3). Brief interruption now – holy crap, up until I wrote this post I had no idea there were so many versions of Symbian. And some people call Windows Mobile classic vs professional confusing?!
And now back to your regularly scheduled mobile news…you can find a great review of Hexxagon Labs by Doug Goldring over on MyTodayScreen. We’ve posted about the review before, but now you can read about the game and then play it! It should definitely help leech more of your time (in the best way) if you’re a fan of puzzles or mobile gaming.

Skype Mobile Beta for Java.
Posted by: Peter Murphy on Apr 26 2008 - 577 viewsSeems like skype have been trying to infiltrate the mobile market for quite a while now. Remember the skype phone, we reported late October last year, slated for the UK.
Well it seems they are trying a new tack, announcing a Mobile Beta for Java phones. With the release of this Mobile "Thin" client, the company is targeting about 50 of the most popular Java-enabled mobile phones from Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
The beta version of Skype for your mobile is available worldwide with a feature set that includes chat, group chat, presence (seeing when your contacts are online), and receiving calls from Skype users, and through SkypeIn.* Additional features, which include the making of Skype-to-Skype and SkypeOut calls from the mobile handsets, are initially supported in seven markets: Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
You can download to desktop and transfer to phone or get it over-the-air from www.skype.com/go/mobiledownload.

Okay, nothing really new to see here except some new Nokky’s dedicated to the "music on board" promotion from Nokia. A couple of good looking candy bars,
"Our XpressMusic range of devices continues to deliver the combination of superior music experiences and fresh, innovative designs," said Jo Harlow, Vice President, LIVE category, Nokia. "Today’s additions to the XpressMusic range up the ante with new ways for consumers to access their media as well as interact and share content with friends and communities anytime, anywhere."
