50% Off Palm Apps Sale - Treat Yourself to Something Nice!!!

Posted by: Heather on Dec 09 2008 - 6 views

I love a good sale.  There is absolutely no doubt about that fact.  So, I was very excited to see that the JAMM Store will be offering the 25 Top-Selling Palm Applications at 50%.  I do my best to save my money, so I can have a hard time parting with $30 for an app, unless its something critical for my device.  However, it is much easier to turn $30 into two or even three apps that I have been eyeing.  Two important things to know about the sale: 1 - It is only going on from Dec. 10 to Dec. 14 - 5 days ONLY; 2 - You can only receive the discounted prices by purchasing through the MobileHeist page:

If I can make one recommendation, for $4.98 purchase 4cast.  It’s a weather application that gives you the five day forecast, as well as detailed information on today’s, tonight’s, and tomorrow’s weather.  There are hundreds of cities to pick from, so you will have no problem finding one close to you.  I recently traveled from the mid-West to Florida, and with a simple change of city, I had all the weather information I needed.  It was faster than trying to Google it or use the Weather channel.  I also use it every morning instead of turning on the TV to get the forecast.  Where else will $5 give you something so useful.

Phones with New Palm OS Promised by Mid-2009

Posted by: Heather on Sep 22 2008 - 45 views

Palm is promising to have new phones running its next generation OS by the middle of 2009.  Work on the operating system itself should be done by the end of this year.  All I can say is that I hope that Palm keeps their word.  We have been hearing rumors about ‘Nova’ for what seems like forever.  Although, 2 years in the tech world, is pretty close to forever.  Palm has also said that the new operating system should be backwards compatible with software currently running on their ‘Garnet’ OS.  I have always been a fan of the Palm OS.  I have a Centro now, and absolutely love it.  Its easy to use, and does not have the ‘crashing’ issues other mobile OS experience.  From a business standpoint, Palm is banking on this new OS to help keep it competitive with RIM and the iPhone.  No word yet on which carriers are interested in selling phones with the new OS.  Its still pretty early in the process.

Review: Insaniquarium Deluxe: Here fishy, fishy, fishy…

Posted by: Heather on Aug 17 2008 - 150 views

Editor’s note: Astraware recently released Insaniquarium Deluxe. It’s a revamped version of an old classic, and it’s the only aquarium game I can think of where your fish-raising efforts take a backseat to fending off alien attacks. When Astraware approached us about doing a review, I had an idea. Since we have more writers and readers using a greater variety of devices than ever at JAMM, we could cover more than one version of the game.

But instead of writing separate reviews for the same game on Palm and Windows Mobile, why not set up a conversation between a user from each? Besides, hardly any two people play a game the same way, and I thought it would be fun to compare notes. Heather and her Palm Centro got on board with me and my Axim x51v, and we let loose. Heather’s comments are in black below, and mine are in blue.

Let us know how you like this kind of review. We sure had fun writing it!

Lauren: Why would killer creatures from outer space invade an aquarium? I mean, don’t they have anything better to do? What do the aliens have against the cute guppies, anyway?

Heather: I’m not sure why aliens need to kill little fish. They are innocent! Must be pretty boring in space.

Lauren: The aliens have got to be pretty tiny to fit into the tank. Hee!

Heather: I didn’t think about the alien size, that is true.

Lauren: That’s it! A size inferiority complex.

Heather: Must be. Plus, I also think they are mad that they don’t have any legs.

Lauren: Killer aquatic alien midget paraplegics.

Heather: I think Spielberg is working on that movie right now.

Lauren: So, what’d you think?

Heather: I’ve had a lot of fun….fish everywhere…collecting money and feeding them…and figuring out what kills them!

Review: Brando Metal Case Is Serious Centro Protection

Posted by: weiganla on Aug 08 2008 - 91 views

Brando metal case for CentroThe Palm Centro is a terrific phone, but that doesn’t mean it can take a swan dive off a third-floor balcony and live to SMS another day. And let’s not even think about all the scratches on the body and screen that magically appear like dust bunnies. So when I get a new device, one of the first things I do is start hunting for a case.

You can find leather, silicone, and plastic “crystal” cases easily enough, but if you’re really gung-ho about protecting your device, it’s tough to match the strength and durability of a metal case. Brando Workshop, a longtime favorite of Palm owners, makes an aluminium (hey, they’re British) case for the Centro designed to keep your phone safe, usable, and looking good.

Is Brando’s metal case more like the Iron Man suit or a tinfoil hat? Read on to find out!

Review: Logitech Pure-Fi Mobile

Posted by: Ragart on Jul 24 2008 - 333 views

jamm logitech pure-fi mobile

I was browsing the interwebs a few months ago when I stumbled upon news of new mobile speakers from Logitech. Before this review I was using an old set of Creative TravelSound speakers to blast my phat beats, but Logitech’s offering had a very different look about it. The Pure-Fi’s looked like a premium item without sparing on functionality. I was very, very eager to get my hands on a set. They looked like the kind of speakers you’d want to take home to meet Mom. It was love at first sight…

Review: Nuance Mobile Voice Control for Palm Units

Posted by: Sue on Jul 22 2008 - 133 views

voice control

Ok, so I may be a little overenthusiastic here, but I am in lurve! Over here in California, they just brought out a new law regarding mobile phone use in cars. You now have to be “hands free,” which means some kind of Bluetooth hookup.

Now, you can either go to a pro and get a hands free kit installed in your car properly or you can have a Bluetooth hookup with a silly cockroach in the ear thing. I opted for the cockroach.  So, with that in mind, and my spanking new Centro, I decided to play around with Nuance Voice Control which is a specific application for PalmOS units. And it does the most wonderful things.
