Review: Soul Trapper

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 15 2008 - 33 views

Alright, so this review took me longer than it should have. You really shouldn’t experiment with multiple machine syncing when you’re reviewing what is essentially an RPG. I was about a quarter through the game and I ended up destroying my save file by syncing all my applications all over again. Ugh!

In any case, I’m back on track now and ready to give you fine folk the heads-up on Soul Trapper for the iPhone. This one’s pretty different from any other title we’ve seen on the App Store, as it’s a fully voice-driven adventure with very little graphical input. But is it any fun? Or is it more of an interactive audio book?

Find out after the jump!

Huge Review: JAVOedge Back Covers for iPhone 3G

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Nov 15 2008 - 34 views

IMG_0291

What do you do when a box shows up at your door one day and you haven’t been expecting it? Well, you do what I do when stuff from JAVOedge shows up - you rip it open like its Christmas morning. This time though I was in for a HUGE shock - this particular box (which again I wasn’t expecting) had not one, not two but over twenty cases in it! Naturally, I sent an email to my friends at JAVOedge and made sure they really meant to send this to me - because frankly I thought maybe they made a mistake. Turns out I was wrong, they really did mean to send all these cases to me, and they really did want me to review them and better yet they want me to give them away! So, I will be doing that soon - I’m just not quite sure yet how to do that, so make sure you keep an eye on the site because I’ll figure out how to do it soon.

Well, enough talking! Let’s get started!!

Triple Threat Review: 3 SplashData Apps!

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Nov 14 2008 - 42 views

Picture 2

Alright folks - we have a lot to talk about in this triple threat of applications from SplashData, so lets get right down to it.

Picture 3

First up is SplashID. SplashID answers the age old questions of how do you keep track of all those passwords rolling around in your head?! How do you keep track of all your credit cards, business cards, bank accounts, 401Ks, IRAs, and who knows what else? Better yet, how do you keep all that information with you at all times, ready to recall at a moments notice?

IMG_0037 IMG_0038

SplashID can help you do that, and do it securely with strong (256-bit blowfish) encryption so even if you lose your phone, you can fell safe knowing someone can’t just open the application and get at your stuff!

IMG_0039 IMG_0040 IMG_0041

One of the best features of SplashID is that you really can have all of this with you at all times - and this carries over to the other apps we’ll look at - because all three applications also have a desktop component which you can sync your data to. Which means you don’t need to fumble with entering all your card numbers and passwords on the iPhone keyboard… everything can be input into a wallet and then simply sync’d to your iPhone. Don’t mistake how huge this is. Besides the hours you will likely save yourself entering data, you aren’t locked into relying on the iPhone to safely manage this data by itself, nor are you locked into just using the iPhone since these SplashData apps are also available on WinMo and Palm!

Review: Going Pogo - Stylus that is!

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Nov 07 2008 - 61 views

IMG_0248

There’s a lot of things in this world that I don’t fully understand, and one of them is the Pogo Stylus. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the concept of a stylus and the use of a stylus (I was a WinMo user for a long time after all) however with the Pogo Stylus I just don’t fully understand HOW it works. I can tell you this though - it works and works pretty darned well - with a couple caveats.

IMG_0249

Before we get to the caveats, lets take a look at the Pogo Stylus in design. First the Pogo Stylus is defined on the Pogo Website as having an ultra-light aluminum body with an anodized finish and laser graphics. Fancy! Real world explanation is the stylus is super light (makes a pencil feel ridiculously heavy), doesn’t scratch easy and has a nice graphic on it to let you know its the real deal.

An Accelerometer Trifecta From Pangea

Posted by: dgoldring on Nov 02 2008 - 43 views

IMG_0024 IMG_0031

A while back, I had the opportunity to review Astraware’s first title for the iPhone/iPod Touch, GTS World Racing.  At the time, I was extremely impressed by the use of the accelerometer, rather than the touch screen to control most of the action.  Really, anytime I can control the action without touching the screen, that is going to make me happy.  There is nothing worse than pulling your phone out of your pocket and finding a smudged and fingerprinted mess on the screen from that game you were playing last night.  So, I loved being able to play games that require only minimal use of the touch screen, if any at all.  Apparently, Pangea took note of this development as well.  They have now released three games: Cro-Mag Rally, Nanosaur 2, and Bugdom 2, which rely almost exclusively on the accelerometer rather than the touch screen to control the action (a fourth game, Billy Frontier, also uses this control scheme, but has been previously reviewed.)  The great thing here is that although the three games all share the same method of control, they are also vastly different games, which see you driving and racing, flying through a prehistoric jungle, and running through the garden.  Hit the jump for a closer look at all three games.

Review: OtterBox Defender for iPhone 3G

Posted by: Brandon Steili on Oct 29 2008 - 70 views

IMG_0184

Fanboy is not a term I use lightly. I don’t consider myself a fanboy of Apple - maybe of the iPhone, and I usually don’t consider myself to be a fanboy of any particular brand of accessory. But, in this case I’m going to come right out and just tell you - I am a fanboy when it comes to OtterBox. This is now the second Defender series case I’ve owned (had one for the original iPhone) and like a fine wine this new version has only gotten better with age. The design changes are quite significant in the latest version and while it hasn’t been all roses (see the part where I hurt myself) - overall I’m still very impressed.

IMG_0185

Like the first iPhone version - the package content for the OtterBox is fairly thin. There isn’t a whole lot of documentation and there really doesn’t need to be since really this is a case and its fairly self explanatory on how you use it. Other than that you’re going to get an OtterBox sticker (love this) and the Defender itself.
