Now This Is Mobile Technology! part 18

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Jul 12 2008 - 16 views

Mobility and mobile devices can really be diverse, from your favourite mode of transport, to the headphones you use with your media player on that transport. I’ve used this series of posts to try to encapsulate some of that variety, and don’t you know it keeps coming.

Since the Grand Second Birthday Relaunch, we at JAMM have actually been diversifying the content that we will cover.
And I’m offering the chance to contribute to this series, notify me if you find things that you think fit in this category.

Now This Is Mobile Technology! part17

We all know that water and electricity don’t mix, [well I hope we do] but a post today caught my eye and reminded me of a mobile solution that is supposed to help you beat the weather. I don’t think waterproofing your device is a priority, but it seems that others do. This is not a recent post, I found it ages ago, and it offered all of the anime charm that I love. most of us would happily accept a shower proof cover for our laptops, or in fact any of our devices, well here’s one.
ziploc

Even though the promotional photo’s look like this is safe, anyone notice the photochopped image on the left? I can’t see any water flowing there. Basically what we are looking at is a device in a sandwich bag. A Ziploc bag. So when something similair comes across your desk from a reputable supplier you do a double take.

Now This is Mobile Technology! part 16

GPS is becoming more of an integrated service in most mobile phones, whether it be great or not people are starting to rely on these services to get from point A to point B. Now GPS is becoming something rather common, even the rumours about the Next iPhone confirm GPS today, Oh and 3G.

It’s pretty easy to forget that GPS devices are actually becoming standard equipment in most new vehicles, as well as handsets, and most of us have an expected format for the device to take.

Hand held GPS devices are becoming more prevalent, but our normal take on a GPS gadget is something like this

You wouldn’t expect a plush covering

Now This Is Mobile Technology! part15

oscar_pistorius_nike I’m always up for a discussion about the definition of mobile technology, and I don’t restrict that definition to electronic gadgets and accessories for those gadgets. So a story that I’ve been following, that includes some incredible mobility technology has had a happy ending and I thought I’d share it here.

Imagine, if you will, a person with no legs being competitive at the Olympic level, you’d think that would take some incredible technology. Well it does, it also takes some incredible personal fortitude as well.

Now This Is Mobile Technology! part 14

How we transport our mobile gadgets, is always up for question. Cases, carriers, sleeves and device holders are constantly in the news because we want to protect our investments, namely your current device. Actually, quite a while ago, I was looking for a review unit that I couldn’t get. The UtiliKilt, is another in the next wave of wearable accessories

utilikilt

What are ye starin’ at, ye wee girl?! This be no skirt, this be a UtiliKilt! Fashioned after the traditional garb of the Celtic warrior. Now of course ye know, William Wallace has ne’er worn a kilt - they weren’t invented until Willie had been stone dead for nearly four-hundred years, but they’re still all about freedom!

Made from a poly-cotton blend so it’s durable and yet soft. It’s got lots of pockets for your crap, so you can carry a cellphone, or screwdrivers, or a beer should the need arise. Big riveted snaps keep everything safe and secure, including your manhood.

Obviously a solution for transporting your mobile devices, but what about wearable devices. How about something stylish that’ll let you enter data on the fly…

Now This Is Mobile Technology! part 13

Posted by: Peter Murphy on Apr 06 2008 - 240 views

Now, after Patrick posted "Now this is Not Mobile Technology, part1", I thought I’d post a photo of a boulder to illustrate some immobile technology. Big or small, things just pop up, and elephant sized gadgets are hard to miss.

What really gets me about this, is getting an elephant to carry a camera, obviously the pachyderm is not taking the shots, it is just the vehicle for the technology.

I have to admit though, jumbo has an eye for a photo op. Candid photo’s like this are elusive, and insightful.
