Review: Waterfield Laptop SleeveCase

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 11 2008 - 32 views

JAMM Waterfield SleeveCase

Today’s JAMM spotlight is shining on another case from Waterfield Designs. I bought myself my first laptop (an MSI Wind) about a month ago and immediately asked Waterfield if they had any designs that would fit the Wind’s compact size. They graciously sent over a laptop sleeve for me to take a look at and I’ve been using it for the last week and a half. Sleeve cases are usually a simple affair: insert the device and it’s protected. But, as it turns out, there’s a lot more to their sleeve design than meets the eye.

Hit the jump for a full review, a few thoughts, and moar pictures.

Spb Survey 2008 — win a WM device!

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 10 2008 - 46 views

It’s that time again, folks. In Canada and the US we’ve already voted for our new leaders, but our valuable opinions are still needed on the world stage to shape the future of mobile computing. Ok, so I made it sound really epic, but it is a great chance to help guide the direction of future Spb products and services. They’re making these programs for users, so all the feedback they can get helps a lot. What’s more — they’re giving some prizes away at random. So your opinions might net you some free software or even a new device.

Participate here and tell ‘em JAMM sent ya! :D Full press release after the jump.

GPS gets really sexy with NAVIGON 8100T

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 10 2008 - 33 views

 NAVIGON-8100T_RightFront

GPS is another one of those tech categories where I’m about as knowledgeable as a blogger who doesn’t know much about GPS. Uhh, yeah. Anyway, my lack of a GPS and car navigating background doesn’t hinder my ability to appreciate shiny. The high-res shots of maps are pretty awesome. A lot of GPS units look alike to me, but this UI looks positively usable and lovable. It’s apparently their first system to use a 3D map via NASA terrain data – resulting in the wicked cool map you see below:

NAVIGON-8100T_PanoramaView3D

The unit will retail for $599 this November on online retailers.

Officesuite 5 for S60 devices released!

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 07 2008 - 33 views

Alright, until Nokia decides I’m awesome enough to receive a free Symbian device to do reviews on, I’ll just have to talk about the Symbian OS like I’m an experienced user. *ahem*

As you all know, I’m a real S60 fan. I love the OS and I love my <S60 device name>, but I really just want something that can handle Office 2007 files the way they were meant to be viewed on my <S60 device name>! But my prayers might have been answered this week with the release of OfficeSuite 5 from Mobile Systems!

I’d talk to you about all the details (I’m a frauuud), but I know you’d much rather read the press release after the jump, so I won’t spoil it for ya!

(it’s worth reading, if only for their use of the phrase “hell gee”!)

Review: Sony NWZ-S738FB 8GB Noise Cancelling Walkman

Posted by: Ragart on Nov 07 2008 - 82 views

Resized 1

It’s been years since I’ve touched a Walkman product that hasn’t had the name “Sony Ericsson” printed on the front. The last one I had was a CD player that lasted for days and days on AA batteries, but times have changed. We’ve moved past CD players to mp3 players and the Walkman brand has adapted accordingly. I got to play with Sony’s mid-level Walkman, the NWZ-S738FBNC (couldn’t they just give it a name?!), for a few weeks and the results were really…surprising.

Hit the jump to find out how the Walkman stands in the age of the Zune, the Sansa, and the iPod.
