"You have been poked by…" now on Windows Mobile
Posted by: Ragart on Jul 06 2008 - 93 views
Yeah, you thought you could escape Facebook by running to Windows Mobile. There’s no native Facebook client for Windows Mobile, you said. Maybe I can get some real work done on my productivity device, you said. Well, think again!
FriendMobilizer (not super fond of the name) is bringing Facebook to the WM platform so that you can be alerted of every wall post, every poke, and every new secret message in your inbox (I don’t get any of those!). Apparently it even ties into the alerts system, so you’ll get updates even on your today screen. So it’s either time to download the app, or jump to a more basic OS if you’re already facebooking too much. When did Facebooking become a verb?!
FriendMobilizer is available here.

Rogers makes Bold claims
Posted by: Ragart on Jul 06 2008 - 81 viewsSo it looks like Rogers is going to hit customers with RIM’s new kid on the block, the Blackberry Bold, on July 25th. We can also probably expect the Kickstart (flip phone model) sometime in September, with the Javelin closing up the year in November/December. Busy year for RIM (shuns Rogers)!
I have to say I’m really curious about the Kickstart and what a crackberry flip phone will be like, I’ve never seen a flip model with a decent QWERTY, and the Kickstart seems to be packing it all (albeit in a rather large package). Actually, all the new Blackberry models are really kicking it up a notch in the looks category. Which Blackberry are you folks waiting for?

Australia’s Optus iPhone plan: no unlimited data either!
Posted by: Ragart on Jul 05 2008 - 180 views
Peter, our Australian connection, sent me info on the Optus plans for the iPhone 3G. I took a look at the website and then got really, really confused with the wording and titling of the plans. Apparently ‘YES’ is the actual branding of the data/voice plan, and you can say yes to a 3G iPhone for $0 as long as you take up one of their offerings. I won’t get into the details of the plans because, frankly, I don’t understand them. I will tell you this though, they’re still beating Rogers with a $0 iPhone and a two-year contract. It’s funny though, I thought it was pretty standard to offer unlimited data for higher-end phones, especially the iPhone.
C’mon, Optus, you call that a data plan? This is a data plan!

More reason to celebrate with PPCTechs
Posted by: Ragart on Jul 05 2008 - 121 views
If you’ve been holding off on that upgrade or repair on your PDA, now’s the best time to go to PPCTechs.com to get the job done. From now until July 31st you’ll get 15% off all repairs, as well as a “buy two, get a third free” sale on accessories available on the site. I don’t remember there being this many discounts on Canada Day. My lunch was still just as expensive as before.
Just enter the code PPCTRC0708 at PPCTechs.com. I’m seriously, seriously tempted to buy myself some WriteShield screen protectors for my iPhone, but I’m not going to buy two packs

FunContact 2.15 — now in black!
Posted by: Ragart on Jul 01 2008 - 132 viewsVITO’s FunContact has a new update out, and it means business! No, really. It’s got a slick black skin on it (like the new one for ZoomBoard and SMS-Chat) that is a complete 180 from the original “fun” skin look of before. I like this look a lot more, as there are a ton of dark Windows Mobile themes out there that will easily match this colour scheme (what goes with black again? oh yeah, black). The new look is great, but I think I’ll wait until they release a business casual suite, so that the bottom tab buttons are in jeans and the contact list is in some dark blue blazer. I likey!

Aside from my usual rabble and the makeover, there is also joystick (and d-pad, I suppose) support for those of you addicted to hardware keys. Oh shucks, guys. Come and just grease up your screen like the rest of us already!

Mobile Google: Even easier to downloodle!
Posted by: Ragart on Jun 29 2008 - 186 views
I know, I know, the headline stings. Let’s get to the news, though! Google is watching everything you do online and they’ve noticed that you’ve wanted an easier way to access their growing lineup of mobile apps. That’s why they’ve launched an even more streamlined version of google mobile to help you find the apps you want in one place. Now if only Windows Mobile could get Marketplace going so customers could get all their apps in one place..
(see that? That’s me ribbing Windows right there. Not too hard though. Just gently)
Newer Google Mobile — here.
