Some of you are no doubt familiar with Minimo, the miniature version of the Mozilla browser. Created to run on your PocketPC PDA or PDA phone, it offers some of the browser functions that have endeared Mozilla to us, such as tabbed browsing, greater compatibility with non-mobile websites, RSS support, and support for Javascript.

Zune firmware 1.3 update available today, March 28.
Posted by: PocketBrain on Mar 28 2007 - 770 views
This just in, from Zune Insider, via Mobility Site. Microsoft is issuing a Zune firmware update. It should be available already for Zune users. This update fixes some bugs and makes improvements, but I don’t see the much-wanted "download from Zune Marketplace sans PC" feature yet.
Among the updates:
- Skipping of some material acquired from Zune Marketplace fixed.
- Improved device detection and syncing.
- FM tuner no longer drains the battery while in sleep mode.

HTC announces a Vista-equipped UMPC, the Shift.
Posted by: PocketBrain on Mar 26 2007 - 1,742 viewsHigh Tech Computer corporation announced their foray into the UMPC market with the new Shift, a UMPC that will run Microsoft’s Vista operating system.
The Shift features a unique, slide/tilt QWERTY keyboard design that can be used in either of two different positions (flat or tilted) or simply stored by sliding the keyboard back behind the screen (akin to other UMPC’s and PPC phones). This gives the operator more options for input. You can either use it like a PDA with its touchscreen input, type flat like a PDA phone, or tilt the screen and touch type — if you have very small fingers.

Linutop, a Linux-based diskless computer.
Posted by: PocketBrain on Mar 14 2007 - 1,376 views
Linutop.com is now producing the Linutop Linux-based diskless computer. Using the AMD Geode LX700 (1.3W) processor at 433 MHz and 256 MB on-board, it runs Xubuntu Linux distribution on a USB thumb drive (included). It also will run with other Linux distros, such as Ubuntu, Mandriva, Slackaware, Puppy Linux, and other thin clients and file servers. Since the Geode is an x86 derivitive, it should get along quite nicely with almost any software that will run in a Linux x86 distribution.
Its creators see it being used for everyday internet usage at home, businesses, Libraries, Schools, Hotels, Hospitals, and Internet cafés. They also see it being used in kiosks, point-of-sales terminals, and imbeded in your vehicle. Imagine running a GPS navigation and multimedia programs with it.

Yanko Design’s bracelet cell phone concept.
Posted by: PocketBrain on Mar 14 2007 - 1,432 viewsYanko design has posted this concept cell phone design (by Tao Ma). Among the features in the concept are: vibrating call notification, a built-in MP3 player, and operating buttons that look like jewels.
So, you can’t get this elegant mobile solution quite yet, but it does look like a promising concept. Until then, the slimmest mobile you are likely to get ahold of is SMS Technology’s M300 Mobile Watch which may be available down under as soon as this month (March).
