Barnes & Noble has had a scattergun approach to their eBook reader for different operating systems. Some features were available for specific devices, others were left wanting. Well today comes news of some leveling of the playing field. The iPhone and iPad now get caught-up with the pack.
There are still device specific features, but there is also now some ability to tie different devices together.
For instance, the iPad version has in-app content ratings, while the iPhone version includes cover art and text that’s customized for the iPhone 4 Retina display. Both the iPhone and iPad versions also let users customize their themes.
The Nook apps will synchronize your settings across multiple devices, allowing you to start reading a book on an iPhone or iPod touch — or even an Android phone, and pick up where you left off on an iPad since all of your Nook apps will remember the last page read on any device.
If you are an eReader, best check out these new FREE NOOK apps from the App Store.
I defaulted to Google a long long time ago because it worked and was fast and efficient, the same way I went to Firefox and never looked back. I am NOT a Microsoft basher and have relied on most of their product offerings for years. It’s just that I NEVER EVER liked IE and I never went back there unless I absolutely had to, so I did not take advantage of or familiarize myself with any service within it that came from Microsoft.
Now though, since the advent of BING, I have it on my phone and, because I have enjoyed using it there, I have begun to try it on my laptop. The BING people have been adding features over time and I must say I am becoming a fan, at least on my phone.
What say you? Who is your default search provider and would you be willing to try another; or have you?

I have been an avid fan of windows mobile devices since my first original Axim. I used each new version faithfully, all the while waiting patiently for the day when phones and pda’s would become one device. What I have always enjoyed, then and since, was the ability to make my device look and function the way I wanted it to. I learned to flash, alter, and customize to my hearts content. It was the wonderful gift and privilege of the Windows Mobile operating system.
The one thing that has ALWAYS gone along with that ability was having to put up with the eventual need to uninstall everything and start over. Windows Mobile also has the ability and tendency to get its files in an uproar and become bogged down from this continual messing with it. Operating systems that don’t allow for mucking about internally, such as Apple, seem to have mostly smooth sailing for the life of the device. You just have to be willing to give up complete customization. I have refused to compromise…….until this week.
When I needed my phone’s camera, it wouldn’t start: error message “not enough memory; close running apps and try again”. When sending an email, device unresponsive; soft reset needed. On start-up, nothing would load and error message displayed saying: “An illegal application has been installed; press volume up or down to reset device to original state. All data will be lost”.
When I heard the words “I’m getting an iPhone” fall from my lips, I had to sit down and take my temperature.
What is your biggest frustration with your current favorite device?
Looks like Apple Central has tweaked the new iOS once again. They have released update 4.0.2 which applies to all iToys: iPod, iTouch, iPhone, iPad, including 2G, 3G, 3GS, and 4.
HOWEVER, it appears there is now a block to the jailbreakme.com pdf workaround. So, for you current Desperados, and those thinking you might want to become one, you may want to sit this dance out. Apparently if you partake, there will be no way of returning to your wicked ways.
