AT&T stores now feature first dual-sliding Windows Mobile Standard Device
Posted by: breley on Oct 29 2007 - 768 viewsDo you have a preference which way your keyboard slides out? Are you undecided, waffling between the convenience of a numeric keypad and the ease of a QWERTY keyboard to bang out long emails? If so, trot over to your local AT&T store to take a look at the 3G Pantech Duo (Pantech specs here), the first Windows Mobile Standard device to sport a dual-sliding keyboard. You’ll be treated to the option of having both keyboard options available on this unit.
While the Pantech itself runs about 0.9" thick, somewhat on the thick side, its screen size is a decent 2.8", somewhat unusual for non-touchscreen devices. As for pricing, the unit is available for about $249.99 with a two-year contract in most AT&T stores.

Is this the face of the Palm Treo 800w?
Posted by: breley on Oct 25 2007 - 815 views(via Engadget Mobile)
By the (button) clicking with my thumbs, something Treo this way comes? Could this image really be the face of the new Treo 800W, slated to be the successor of the 700-series, or is it really just a rumor?
Judging by the form factor, it looks to me like Doug’s Mogul is straining to birth a Treo keyboard. Will the unit sport onboard GPS and WiFi? Inquiring minds want to know!

Microsoft unveils offerings to ignite large-scale corporate smartphone adoption
Posted by: breley on Oct 23 2007 - 265 views(via ClintonFitch.com)
In an effort to light a fire under corporate consumers to speed up mobile smartphone adoption, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer earlier today revealed a number of incentives to further that goal. Microsoft unveiled a new strategic business alliance with Enterprise Mobile Inc. to augment the increased success of its Windows Mobile operating system and assist businesses in realizing tangible benefits with mobile solutions. Enterprise Mobile will build, deploy and manage custom solutions for mobile operators and phone manufacturers.
In addition, Microsoft unveiled its first dedicated mobile device management server, the Mobile Device Manager 2008. This new server will provide IT manager with the tools necessary to send software updates and take inventory over the air to Windows Mobile phones. The server will also bolster data security via Mobile VPNs. Mobile Device Manager 2008 is slated for release in the first half of 2008.

Microsoft to debut Windows Mobile 6.1 in February?
Posted by: breley on Oct 21 2007 - 345 views(via WM Experts)
Recently, pocketinfo.nl reported that Microsoft planned to announce Windows Mobile 6.1 in February 2008, with potential devices showing up in May. Pocketinfo.nl’s story has since been pulled, but the rumor is that the interface will likely be very similar to the Vodaphone-Microsoft collusion on the Treo 500v, where the interface uses a carousel-style navigation. If you are curious, The::Unwired has a video of this type of interface here.
The central concept of this interface type is to change usability from one that is application-oriented to one that is more task-oriented. Thus, instead of needing to open up an application to create or access a document, the new interface would allow users to jump to the appropriate portion of the carousel to perform the action directly.
The WM 6.1 interface is rumored to be a vertical scroller with horizontal options, and reported features improvements to WiFi, Bluetooth, and corporate Exchange integration.
