About
Welcome to Just Another Mobile Monday, a Practical Look At Mobile Life. We’re glad you found us. JAMM was found in June 2006 by Patrick Jordan, who thought it would be fun to, “offer another little (hopefully interesting) place to visit and exchange news / views / tips and tricks that help with getting the most out of mobile devices and the apps we run on them.” With that modest proposal, in mind, JAMM was off and running, focusing mainly on Windows Mobile, with a smattering of other things thrown in for good measure.
In June 2008, Patrick transferred control of JAMM to longtime contributor, editor, and friend, Doug Goldring, who now serves as the Editor-In-Chief of the site. JAMM was relaunched on June 25, 2008, with a new focus of providing a practical look at all facets of mobile life. Just like that first post though, we still hope you find many useful tidbits here and will continue visiting again and again.
Let’s take a closer look at our team:
Patrick Jordan: Founder
Patrick Jordan is an IT Consultant from Austin, Texas. He founded JAMM in June 2006 with the hope of providing news, views, and reviews for mobile enthusiasts.
Doug Goldring: Editor-In-Chief and Owner
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Doug fled all the way to Ohio where he received an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Political Science from Miami University (OH). Doug then returned to Pittsburgh where he received his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He them immediately took up the life of a nomad or more precisely an attorney with the Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Prisons). In the next five years, Doug would live in Williamsport, PA; Lewisburg, PA; Seattle, WA; and Northern Virginia (what is technically known as the Washington, D.C. commuting area). Doug’s family is anxiously waiting to learn where their next home will be. After almost five years, however, they have grown quite comfortable in Virginia.
Doug is probably the last person you would ever expect to find writing for a mobile technology website. As an attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Doug negotiates multimillion dollar contracts, and litigates lawsuits from one end of the country to another (from sea to shining sea), all without the aid of even the simplest Blackberry device. Nonetheless, before he began practicing law, Doug was a writer and journalist dating back to his high school and college days. Writing about mobile technology seemed like the perfect way to dust off those old skills, and he has not looked back. In addition to Just Another Mobile Monday, Doug is also the Editor-In-Chief and co-owner of My Today Screen, and a frequent contributor to Gear Diary. In the past, Doug has also written for Aximsite. Doug rounds out the online experience by frequently participating in beta tests of some of the most well known products available for the Pocket PC. Doug is frequently referred to as the reviewer who never sleeps, as a result of the number of 3:00 am posts that have magically appeared with his name on them. Nonetheless, Doug does have a life outside of writing, or so his wife reminds him. When not writing reviews, Doug enjoys spending time with his two sons and baby daughter. Doug also enjoys playing guitar, digital photography, and watching SpongeBob Squarepants on the “talky-box” in the living room.
My current device is a Sprint Mogul by HTC running Windows Mobile 6.
Lauren Weigand: Reviews Editor
Lauren woke up one morning and discovered that she was Reviews Editor at JAMM. She’s one of the few contributors without a background in technology. Lauren earned a degree in chemistry and also has some medical training, but she’s always enjoyed playing around with gadgets and writing. She got sucked into JAMM by the contests, stayed for the personality, and hasn’t looked back.
Devices:
Palm Centro (yes, it’s pink)
Dell Axim x51v
Peter Murphy: News Editor
Peter is an ex circus/theatre performer, rigger, prop maker and professional musician, with no education to speak of. Being in theatre Peter obviously didn’t have consistent work and to supplement his income started working in the hospitality industry. He became a chef in 1986 and still cooks today. In 1997, Peter first touched a computer, and after he got over his initial fear, thinking he could bring down the entire infrastructure of a city, his obsessive compulsive disorder took over. Always fascinated by new, shiny, gadgetry of all kinds, he has followed technology in it’s many diverse forms for years, from something as simple as a better adjustable wrench, to ringtones for dogs.
Peter does actually have some purpose, He now works with disadvantaged people teaching computer skills, and cooking about 1500 meals a week. Accidentally Peter accepted an iPaq from someone as a loaner, thinking it would help organise his complicated life, and his mobile journey started. Not a writer, not a technician, just an obsessed WinMo user!
Devices: Axim x5, x51, x51v, iPods old. Moto Rzr V3x [soon to be recycling material]
Brandon Steili: System Administrator and Contributor
Brandon is a contributor and site admin here at Just Another Mobile Monday. When he’s not obsessing over his iPhone or maintaining the site, you can find him happily sitting in front of his MacBook reading through more RSS feeds than any human being every should.
Obviously obsessed with current technology it should come as no surprise he’s a systems administrator by trade and helps manage thousands of servers across multiple data centers for one of the largest managed hosting providers in the country. He specializes in both Windows and Linux server administration … and couldn’t think of a better way to spend his time at work.
TJ Chan: System Administrator and Contributor
Devices: Dell Axim x51v, i-Mate JAQ3, AT&T 8525, Asus Eee PC 701, and more.
Dan Cohen: Contributor
Dan, a long-time Windows Mobile and Tablet PC user, drank a bit too deeply from the MacKool-Aid last summer. He prefers the term “switcher” to “lemming” but realizes that both apply since he now uses his iPhone exclusively and, for the first time in years, isn’t changing his phone or notebook every three to six months.
Dan began writing for Just Another Mobile Monday in the fall of 2007. He currently contributes here, as well as to Gear Diary. He also recently launched the iPhone-related site, WhatsOniPhone.com.

Thomas “Ragart” Wong: Contributor
Thomas has been a mobile tech fan for a few years now. He started off with a Palm Tungsten T3, then a Dell Axim x51v, an HTC TyTN, and then currently uses an iPhone. He has had a lot of fun playing around with the possibilities available on the Palm OS, Windows Mobile, and OSX. Thomas does not really have many “techy” friends, so he turned to the internet to find a place where he could share his hobby with other enthusiasts. Right around the start of 2007 (with a fresh resolution to write more) he stumbled across the idea of joining JAMM. He had been reading the site for a while and liked the style and quality of the posts (never dry, always with some personality). He also loved the head-to-head reviews that were featured. This ain’t just another tech blog, it’s JAMM :D.

Stephen is a 20 year retired veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Submarine Sonar Technician. He has quite a bit of PC Experience, including service as a System Administrator for WAN network (NT4, and 2K) for three years, as well as Win95/98/NT4/2kPro/XP (Please observe that he maintained some level of intelligence, in that Millenium and Vista are not part of his repertoire. Currently, Stephen works as a desk clerk at a major hotel chain, serving penance for his past mistreatment of customer service professionals. He secretly amuses himself at the lack of intelligence of the average hotel guest!.
