Need Cloud Storage? Amazon Gives You 5GB Free!

amazoncloud

Get ready to get your hands on more space!  How much more?  How about 5GB for free from Amazon Cloud Drive?  What?  You want more?  If you buy even a $2 MP3 album, Amazon will give you 20GB for a year (one time promotion).  If you buy your MP3’s from Amazon, they will be stored in the cloud and it will not count against your storage space.  What about stuff you already purchased?  That I’m not sure but I just sent Amazon an email asking as I have purchased a good number of albums from them previously.  Remember to setup your options under “Your Amazon MP3 Settings”:

Lastly, just a quick warning for those who care about privacy:

5.2. Our Right to Access Your Files. You give us the right to access, retain, use and disclose your account information and Your Files: to provide you with technical support and address technical issues; to investigate compliance with the terms of this Agreement, enforce the terms of this Agreement and protect the Service and its users from fraud or security threats; or as we determine is necessary to provide the Service or comply with applicable law.

Great to store your personal stuffs, but let’s avoid trade secrets, illegal stuffs (duh), as well as sensitive documents – it’s unlikely Amazon will go digging, but just know that they do have the key should they have reason to dig.

Won’t Publish My App? Tawkon Goes Cydia!

tawkon

Tawkon, an application – the only one for now – monitors real-time radiation levels (caused by iPhones) to give users simple prompts to lower their exposure got rejected from the Apple App Store.   The makers of tawkon even got praises from Apple senior executives about functionality and graphical appeal.  Despite praises from some in Apple, we all know who carries the big stick in that company.

Steve Jobs personally emailed tawkon co-founder & CEO Gil Friedlander with a curt two-word response stating: “No Interest”, tawkon was left with no alternative but to climb through the Cydia window to let iPhone users see and lower their exposure to cell phone radiation.

Ow.  That’s harsh.  More than harsh I find it offensive.  To work so hard and not see your product go to market.  Good thing there is Cydia.

AT&T Buys T-Mobile from Deutsche Telekom for $39 Billion

attt-mobile merger

Loosing it’s exclusive iPhone deal, AT&T seeks growth.  One way to achieve that is by acquisition in which AT&T has agreed to purchase T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 Billion ($25 billion in cash and the rest as stock).  Both operators use SIM cards and the same network technologies.  With the merger comes a combined customer base of around 130 million customers.  For those iPhone users who thought they escaped AT&T by going to T-Mobile, welcome back!

What’s your take on the merger?  If on T-Mobile, will you be planning to change carriers just to escape AT&T or are you welcoming the change?
