Back when I joined the work force, leaving a job meant a certain amount of stress and formality. Generally, it required at least a degree of face-to-face interaction, maybe some yelling and even some throwing things. We’ll, times have changed. Here we are in the 21st century and, as one industrious young lady shows, it is now possible to not only quit your job, but also humiliate your boss without saying a word. You just have to love the power of technology. Oh and as she says in the last photo, I do believe she will be just fine…wherever she lands.

Check out the full sequence over at http://thechive.com/2010/08/10/girl-quits-her-job-on-dry-erase-board-emails-entire-office-33-photos/. And ataxy tuned as they will have a complete update on this story tomorrow morning over pat thechive.com

Whether you are an Apple fanboy or an Apple basher, the one thing we all have known for sometime, Mr. Steve always manages to raise the bar and push the envelope, causing others to begin to Think Different. Out of that comes other innovations and variations of things we didn’t know we needed or didn’t know we could use…..and yes, a lot of copying and trying to improve on the same idea.
Check out this shoot-out between a Hanvon Slate using Windows 7 and the iPad. These are exciting times:
(Found via Kara Swisher at All Things Digital)
A couple of years ago, after an iTunes update and a glitchy library conversion, I had a vision of the download and the library conversion going away in favor of Apple’s iTunes-iCloud (or whatever you wanted to call it) music service. I liked the idea. It had merit. It was fresh, bold, and innovative.
It had Apple written all over it.
iTunes in the Cloud could offer:
- Reduced storage requirements for end users, as their music would reside in a Cloud/SaaS based library.
- Apple would only have to have a single copy of any and every song they sold; but would have to maintain an ACL (Access Control List) for each authorized purchaser or user/listener.
- You’d only download the paid content you wanted to your local HDD or iDevice. You could swap this in and out of your iDevice at will.
- You could stream YOUR purchased music to your iDevice over 3G/4G (if carrier supported…) or Wi-Fi.
- Plus any other cloud based benefits you can cram in the model
Apple recently introduced VERY basic cloud based services and got some serious push back from the RIAA and other industry influencers (freakin’ communists, all; the greedy bastages…)
However, the question of the day is, Do YOU want your music in the cloud? Do you want that kind of service and all that it entails, both good and bad? Will the lack of 3G/4G coverage in the geographical areas you frequen (if applicable) be a huge deterrent to you? Is there ANY difference between storing your music on YOUR hard drive vs. Apple’s hard drive? Should there be? Should it cost you more or less to do that? Should there be ANY end user associated costs? Would you be supportive of a raise in single song costs to (for example…) say, $1.99 per song, to help off set increased royalty (cuz you KNOW the RIAA is going to get a hold of this and eff this one up…), storage and/or licensing costs?
This has been on my mind for a while and I know everyone here at JAMM would love to hear what you have to say. Why not sound off and give us YOUR thoughts in the comments below?
For the techie on the go, a screwdriver should be available at all times. Great for for quickly opening up customer units to see what kind of hard drive they have or what type of RAM they need, this little gem is sure to make things much easier. It features the following tools:
- #1 Flat Screwdriver
- #2 Flat Screwdriver
- #1 Phillips Screwdriver
- #2 Phillips Screwdriver
- Bonus 1/8" Rule Markings
- Stainless Quick Release Key Clip

ZDNet reports of a paper from Microsoft Research titled “User Experiences with Activity-Based Navigation on Mobile Devices”. From this paper, the “Menlo is a prototype mobile device with a capacitive touch screen (4.1‖ diagonal, 800×480) running Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 which incorporates a Bosch BMA150 3-axis accelerometer and Bosch BMP085 digital pressure sensor (barometer).” It utilizes a Silverlight application called “Greenfield” which allows users to retrace their steps to find their cars. I’m fascinated at what type of possibilities will open up with Silverlight development. Microsoft failed miserably with their previous phone….but one thing’s for sure, don’t quit…just keep trying. Failure comes, but success follows! When I read Bill Gate’s book on “The Road Ahead” he had quite the vision of technology including mobile devices. There will always be more to research and innovate. All it takes is one great innovation properly executed to topple over existing technologies or at least gain a good amount of market share.
