Question of the Day: What are your experiences with Windows 7 Starter?

So… I just picked up my first netbook, and it’s preloaded with Windows 7 Starter.  While I haven’t played with it much, the research I did on it makes it look like a suitable OS for most of my portable needs.  What have been your experiences with it?   What would I really be gaining if I bumped the RAM to 2 GB and installed 7 Home Premium?

Android Assimilates ASUS and Leaves Microsoft in the Dust

EeePCAndroid-500x319

Netbook News reports that the new ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC will not ship with Windows Embedded Compact 7 but will instead take a flavor of Android – even potentially Android 3.0 (Codename: Gingerbread).  Microsoft used to be the king of so many devices.  Now everyone seems to be moving on to alternatives.  Has Microsoft neglected their embedded systems too long?  Scheduled for launch during Q1 of 2011, that gives ASUS plenty of time to see how Android will adapt to its needs.  Seems like Google is really taking the world by storm and is sure to give Apple a run for its money.

PalmPad Trademark Predicts a WebOS Powered Slate

According to CNET, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued HP a trademark for the term “PalmPad”.  Considering that HP’s Slate was scrapped due to costs not being able to be low enough for the consumer market according to the lecturer at a HP/AMD training session, HP is now in a position to use an operating system that it owns.  WebOS came with HP’s recent acquisition of Palm.  Considering that the platform was designed already with touch in mind, it makes a strong starting point in getting device from scratch off the ground.  If there’s one thing that Apple is doing, they not only control the entire manufacturing of the iPad, but also it’s software.  HP is heading that same route.  I believe this is a most excellent decision as it grants the company free reign to create a masterpiece that balances price and performance.
