Now or Later

We are all being programmed to not stand in one place for too long, usually meaning more than a few seconds. I’m referring to our use of and formed habits via technology. If you are a daily tech user (anything from a smartphone, to a desktop computer, to a portable one of some kind), you probably access your news and information from emails and feed readers. And this means the tendency becomes to do those things with as much brevity and alacrity as you can muster. The end result being, you fly thru the information as though someone had erected a “No Parking” sign. Rare is the person, these days, who sits with a cup of coffee and actually reads a whole article in a relaxed manner.

There are internet browser plug-ins that can offer some alternatives to this manic life style –- the Firefox extension Read it Later comes to mind, but what if you don’t use Firefox. And what if you have an iPhone or iPad as your daily driver. Well, you now have a beautifully designed and very useful answer to questions like: “how can I save this,” “where did I see that,” “where did I put that?” It is called Instapaper. Instapaper takes any web page, minus all the frustrating ads and extras, and converts and saves your article into a newspaper-like format for reading at a later time. Two versions are available, Free and Pro ($4.99), thru the App Store.

How it works

Instapaper gives you a Read Later bookmark.

  1. When you find something you want to read, but you don’t have time, click Read Later.
  2. Come back when you have time, or read your articles on the go.

Try Instapaper Free first if you’d like a taste of offline page reading, then buy Instapaper Pro for its versatility, convenience, and features.
