The last Nokia N8 has not yet arrived on the world shelves, and it has been already declared dead.
Yesterday Nokia announced that its N-Series will stop using the Symbian operative system, and will move to MeeGo, with the N8 being the last N-Series device with Symbian onboard.
Nokia will continue loading is historical OS on lower end devices, but its bet for the future is MeeGo, the OS born from the ashes of Nokia’s Maemo (lately seen on the N900) and Intel’s Moblin.
This was expected to happen, and somehow it is happening a little later than expected, and the brand new high-end N8 will pay for everyone.
Nokia N-Series
For those of you still interested in the Nokia N8, C|Net Australia as an in depth your of the device.
I like Nokia’s smartphones design but I have never liked its OS. I hope this choice will pay Nokia in the future, and that MeeGo will prove to be a capable Linux based mobile OS alternative.

Question of the Day: Does being a technology user equate with having a better quality of life?
Technology definitely helps me to be more productive, more accessible and more knowledgeable of events as they happen.
Productivity comes in the form of having planned tasks and events always at hand. A quick glance at my screen speaks volumes regarding what needs to be accomplished or where I should be. It also comes from having resources at hand. Documents are readily available, facts are carried in portable encyclopedias.
Prior to cell phones, one could actually disappear from communications if not for only a while. A lonely car ride was a chance for solitude. Time at the cafe was reflective. With an always on internet and communications device, we can be reached in a multitude of different ways. One can be called, messaged, emailed and so on.
We can stay abreast of the news and know what each of our “friends” are doing at all times. We can also share our state of being, for better or worse, at any given moment.
I’m feeling a little introspective. I don’t know if all of this technology at my fingertips helps me to be more productive and therefore more relaxed, or if the converse is true. By being “on” all the time, perhaps I am less relaxed than if a disconnect were to occur.
