Question of the Day: How do you get your technology buzz?

Question of the Day:  How do you get your technology buzz?

When in the city, my thrill used to be the chance I had to run into Staples.  Then it was CompUSA.  Oh, the rush of seeing the new devices, looking at the varying accessories.  As time has progressed though, the buzz of seeing devices at an electronics store is slowly dying.

How do you get that technology rush?  Is it a new game, trying out a new program or pawing the display of cell phones at a store?  Hit the comments and let us know.

GMail vs. Hotmail: Lifehacker Compares The New MS Hotmail To GMail

hotGmail

After introducing PUSH capabilities to the new Hotmail, you may wonder how GMail is compared to the revamped MS mail service.

The guys at Lifehacker asked themselves the same question, and went through a comparison between the two services.

They analyzed the following points:

  • InBox
  • Attachments
  • Embedded contents
  • MS Office (or Google Docs) integration
  • Speed
  • Organization
  • Instant messaging
  • Mobility
  • Spam filtering

and conclude that, even noticeably better, the new Hotmail still is not on par with GMail, even if they admit:

It’s worth noting that we love Gmail here at Lifehacker, so while this is was an attempt to be fair and even-handed we may often favor Gmail because, well, we like it. Nonetheless, there are some great new additions to the new Hotmail and things are still missing from both.

I suggest you to visit Lifefacker and give it a read. Meanwhile, I will enjoy my GMail account…

Welcome Windows Embedded Handheld: A Gentle Migration Path Towards Windows Phone 7 For Enterprise (Courtesy Of Motorola)

Motorola has announced its new ES400 Enterprise Digital Assistant. The device shows that the company has not yet abandoned the Microsoft platform, and was a chance for Steve Ballmer to shed more light (or more darkness…) on Microsoft’s mobile OS strategy.

ES400_front

During Motorola’s ES400 launch event, Ballmer said Microsoft is working on another mobile OS for enterprise devices, based on Windows Mobile 6.5:

In the next six months we will release a new embedded OS called Windows Embedded Handheld, based on Windows Mobile 6.5 technologies

[...] in the second half of 2011, we will release a version of Windows Embedded Handheld based on Windows Phone 7 technology

This strategy will allow Microsoft to offer enterprises a way to gently migrate to a version of Windows Phone 7 for enterprise devices (i.e. rugged devices).

For the moment, the Motorola ES400 shows us the solution adopted to bridge to the new Mobile OS for enterprises:

  • skinned version of WM6.5.3 mimicking Windows Phone 7
  • 600-MHz ARM11 processor
  • GSM HSPA, Sprint’s CDMA EVDO
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g
  • 640×480 pixel, 3 inch, touch screen

Well, I am not an enterprise user, but a front facing keyboard always has my attention :)
