Review: HTC Pouch Type Leather Case for HTC Touch Pro2 (GSM Unlocked)
After my experience with the PDAir Flip Type case, I chose to try the HTC branded pouch type case, hoping to be more lucky.
I want to anticipate that I don’t like the idea of a pouch case, as I prefer the “always on” type of case; as a matter of fact I have always had this last form factor on all my previous phones. However, the will to use the physical keyboard of my Pro2 and the poor result of the PDAir Flip Type case convinced me that for this device it could be better to provide a safe and secure place where to place the smartphone and to handle it without any interfering case, to have the best experience using the keyboard.
I have walked in many stores to try general purpose pouch cases (i.e. not built for a specific model), but none of them was able to fit the Pro2, which has proven to be always too thick or too large to use them.
Thus I ordered the pouch case for the Pro2 made by HTC itself and paid 25,99 € for it at Expansys.it.
Here is my first week review, let’s see if my € were well spent.
The first impression of the case is of a solid piece of work, with some minor complaints for the leather quality, which seems to be rigid and not as soft as it should be.
The case is closed via a magnet which is not causing the accidental switch on of the Pro2 as it was the case with other general purpose cases I tried in stores (this happens because they interfere with the “switch on when stylo is taken out” function of the Pro2).

On the back you find:
-
a clip to attach the case “on the fly” to your belt
-
a pair of rings to attach it firmly to the belt.

Two elastic strips per side allow the case to stretch and adapt to many HTC devices and a hole on the bottom can be used to push the Pro2 out of the case to grab it.

Many grey sewings surround the case, giving some nice movement to the surface of the case. Finally, the HTC logo is placed on a metal piece of metal in the center of the case. I prefer “no logo” cases, but this is not a major problem for me.

As said, both sides of the case use elastic strips to adapt to the Pro2 and they should close the case around it. However, they are not doing their work very well, mainly because of the rigidity of the leather at which they are attached, resulting in both:
- an accidental pressure on the power button, causing it to switch on;
- an unpleasant visual effect.
The elastic strips are used to fit the case to many HTC devices
Elastic strips are not making their work; this is expected to stop with usage.
I think this will stop with time, as the leather will lose its rigidity, and I am confident the case will end to fit properly also on the sides.
Conclusions
After a week of continuous usage, I think a pouch style case it’s the best choice to protect your Pro2, while maintaining the chance to use it and its keyboard as you should.
However, this pouch leaves room for improvement, especially the leather quality and the side elastic strips, which are not always fully functional. However, I think this last annoyance will end with time and I will enjoy the new case.
