AT LAST! Barnes & Noble Reaches the iPad

photo (7)

When the iPad launched earlier this year, one of the real treats for me was exploring the myriad of ebook reading options.  Not only was the highly touted iBooks and its accompanying Apple book store sitting there front and center, but much to many users’ surprise, we also found an incredible Kindle app, backed by the full Amazon bookstore and the Borders with its Kobo ereading app, backed, of course, by Borders extensive library.

I have to admit that I was pretty shocked to find every major bookseller hitting the iPad right off the…waitaminute.  iBooks, Borders, Amazon…hang on, something is definitely missing.  One of the biggest mysteries for me on launch day was what the heck happened to Barnes & Noble?  They had a pretty good iPhone app, yet they were no where to be found on the iPad.  While everyone marveled over Apple’s new iBooks; Amazon’s Kindle killer, Kindle for iPad; and Border’s oddly named but fully functional Kobo, Barnes & Noble seems to slip out of the collective consciousness of iPad users.

Well, the wait is now over.  Today (finally) Barnes & Noble released its BN eReader app to the iPad App Store.  Only time will tell how the BN eReader app will measure up to the other eBook readers available for the iPad.  I will say, however, that I am thrilled to find that Barnes & Noble finally brought its own extensive selection of books to the iPad.  Now, we can truly say that all of the major booksellers are available on the iPad…and there is nothing wrong with that.

Let’s take a quick look at what BN eReader brings to the table:

  • Over one million titles
  • LendMe technology lets you share the books in your personal library with friends
  • Free samples of any book in the Barnes & Noble library
  • Completely customizable interface
  • Notes
  • Free dictionary built into the app
  • Attractive interface

The BN eReader for iPad is available for free from the iTunes App Store.  It is currently the number two ranked free app.

The other day we posted about the Windows Mobile Office 2010 upgrade you can grab free from the Marketplace.  Now Infosync has uploaded a promotional video that touts the 2010 Mobile productivity app as a pretty great app.  As I said in previous post, I’m just not sure they really changed anything.

Check out the video over at WMPoweruser.com and let us know your thoughts on their commercial.

Track the Zombie Apocalpse with Your Android Phone

Zombie Map

Are you worried about the location of zombies?  Well, Android can help you track them.  Ok, not really, but this is just the coolest Live Wallpaper.  What the background represents is a grid with red dots being zombies, green dots are un-infected humans, and blue dots are zombie hunters.  If you add an app icon, it acts as a bomb to blow up all the zombies in the surrounding area.  You can watch all the dots run and fight and see if the humans can make a come back.  I just LOVE this!!!  I am putting it on my list of apps to download once my HTC Incredible finally arrives.  I am a bit worried that I’ll just being staring at little dots all day, but I figure I’ll get over it after a month or two.  It is a zombie attack simulator, and something you just can’t be without.  Consider it research for the future.

More EVERNOTE Functionality for iPhone

Evernote announced today another productivity app for the iPhone. Here are the details on Evernote integration, but be sure and follow the link below for their interview with the developer.

Application: Egretlist [iTunes link]
Developer: MindsMomentum
Location: Puerto Rico
Platform: iPhone
Category: Productivity, task management

Meet Egretlist

Egretlist is an iPhone to-do app that links directly to your Evernote account. It finds all of your notes that contain checkboxes, lays them out in an intuitive way, and syncs any changes you make right back into Evernote. The app not only displays to-do items, but it also shows any related content in the given note, including images and attachments.

Besides its great looks and features, we’re very excited about Egretlist because it is among the first apps exclusively designed to extend existing Evernote functionality. How cool is that!

Evernote Tip: You can insert a checkbox into a note by pressing Shift+CMD+T (Mac) or CTRL+Shift+C (Windows).
