There are more and more back-up-to-server applications being offered these days, as well as physical desktop drives you can purchase. Why is that? Well, if you’ve you’ve ever lost your hard earned and time-consuming collection of data, then you already know the answer to that question. The old tried and true mantra, that we all try to ignore, is still applicable today, more than ever: “Back up, Back up, Back up.” You just cannot have too many places or methods for recovering information and files that you care about. Mozy is another one for your consideration and they continually improve their functionality. And, low and behold, today they have another update. Check it out. The usual free version allowing up to 2Gb of storage, and a paid service for those of you who are professional class pack-rats.
| The latest in Mozy innovation is here with the official release of Mozy 2.0 for Windows. It’s packed with important updates and features, including:
· Mozy 2xProtect™ – This new feature allows you to back up to an external drive in addition to our online data centers at no additional cost. · Faster backups – Mozy 2.0 prepares your files up to 75% faster, transfers them up to 25% faster, and uses less of your computer’s resources than ever before. · New, easy-to-use interface – Mozy 2.0 allows you to temporarily stop a backup in progress via a new “pause” button. You can also instantly see how many files have backed up and how many are left to back up, so you can verify that files have been protected. |

| Learn more about the Mozy 2.0 for Windows launch, and then spread the word; Mozy for Windows is better than ever. (And don’t worry Mac users; Mozy 2.0 for Mac is coming later this year.) |
I find these numbers reported over at Droiddog.com slightly skewed, and here’s why.
In the first quarter of 2010 it was and had been well know that Microsoft was developing a new mobile handset. I believe it was mid 2009 that we realized Windows Mobile 6.5 was just an appeaser as they worked through the new OS.(Correct me if I’m wrong here as I didn’t research that. I just pulled it from the air, it just seems about the time that news was available.) So obviously there would not be as many units sold when we at least speculated that Windows Mobile was a dying breed. Truly, for that fact, only time will tell.
With the mobile industry on a huge up rise this year it is no doubt that there will be a much bigger market next year to fight over. I am hesitant at what Microsoft is doing for my personal uses, but as I have always said before I have XDA-DEV for that.
One thing of concern for the Google handset is the lack of frequent updates. Windows Mobile has had this problem in the past where it never got consistent updates because the handset became outdated.(in their opinion)
As I see it, Window Phone and iPhone do not have this issue because they have created guidelines for hardware. A smart move that I am coming to agree with because any phone will get regular updates. Another problem that Android has on its own from Windows Phone and iPhone is App qualifications. I don’t think Microsoft will necessarily be as difficult to work with as apple is on this front, but again time will tell.
Slashgear.com ran this post yesterday about Battery consumption on Android handsets where CEO Eric Schmidt suggests that it is application issues such as back ground apps running or those that are not necessarily smart about managing cellular radios and such.
So my point is the direction that Microsoft is going from these issues is making me a believer. Slowly but possibly surly.
So what about you?
Is Microsoft making the right choices?
Comment below and fill us in on what they are doing right or wrong in their new OS, and how it will affect the overall success of they or other OS’s.
