More on JAMM’s ongoing Privacy Watch. We could say more, all day, every day, but we won’t. We’ll try to keep this to relevant developments in the unfolding issue. But today comes news via ALL THINGS DIGITAL, or another aside, depending on your interest and point of view, wherein they posted comments from Robert Scoble.
I think another thing to keep in mind here: there is a difference between “taking a stand” and “being a stand”. Look at the comments from Scoble’s post. Some people just don’t get what the hub-bub is all about. Others clearly want this whole issue resolved. In other words, some want to take a stand, while others, like Scoble, want to be a stand for what they feel are character issues and principles.
Take a look. Sometimes seeing others act out these dilemmas gives you more insight into who you are.
HERE is the discussion of Scoble’s relationship with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and their ensuing conversation.
Enough said, I think. The recent updated ROM by T-Mobile has been pulled for various inconsistencies not found in the original ROM. Apparently it was released in record time from the HTC upgrade but they apparently faltered on testing it out thoroughly.
It is completely beyond me why carriers think we enjoy the crapware they demand be on our devices. It seems like people are more and more just fine with the branding that is infiltrating our entire lives.
Oh, yes I definitely want my browser to be reminding me what carrier I am using and taking up precious screen space. This is just one example but they are very numerous in my experience.
So is this bothersome to others or is it just me?
Did you become victim to the HD2 T-Mobile update?

JAMM is following the privacy issue as it unfolds with it’s ups and downs. Nicholas Carr has been, too. He posts another good report today; we’ll get to that in a minute.
We are trying to stick to the topic as it relates to our cyber freedoms, but as I watch all this, I can’t help but think of our tribal tendency to always want rules for others, but not ourselves. Ever notice when a politician runs for an office, or an artist gets some fame, suddenly we want to know everything about them, and think we have every right to their entire history. Yet, if someone comes at our personal life, we think we have every right to say “none of your bloody business.” Funny aren’t we?
I had a teacher who always said: “Authenticity cannot be measured in terms of its consistency with an identity. Authenticity is not a fixed thing.” Well, today this fight/issue is all about whether our identities can and will lock us forever into some definition of our personal authenticity. Your future employer might find something on you from when you were young and stupid and make it mean you are forever young and stupid. What’s stupid is, that your employer makes it mean anything in the first place, and that you think he won’t.
Here’s more of the conversation via Nicholas Carr at ROUGH TYPE. Let us know what you think.
