Dear, It’s Not What You Think: The Guest You Wouldn’t Expect

What if you find your sweet half comfortably laid in bed, having fun with an Android? No, I am not going to talk about any strange and dramatic situation, instead I want to share with you my amazement discovering how my sweet half was comfortable with her Mother’s Day gift.

My family house is full of Palm OS devices, as we like them very much, but recently I was forced to jump on the Windows Mobile bandwagon due to a night problem. My wife was still happy with her Treo, but she was in the need of a second device to hold her second SIM card.

Mother’s Day came with perfect timing to make her a special gift: a new device. This sounds easier than it really is, as she has never liked the cells I bough her in the last years.

The first one was a Samsung SGH-i600, but she completely hated it because she was finding it light years far from the Palm OS ease of use, and the screen was also too much cramped for her taste.

IPhone 3G to the rescue, I thought foolishly, when I bought her the white (more girly, don’t you think?) iPhone 3G 16GB as soon as it was in the market in Italy. Damn, I also was in the queue at midnight the day it was first available!! But, no way… Despite having and appreciating her iPod Touch (which I bought her to see how she could have taken the iPhone), the iPhone was disturbing her and it was sold in less than two weeks.

You can now imagine how I was feeling yesterday when I and our sons gave her the Mother’s Day gift, the European version of the Motorola Droid, i.e. the Milestone. I was ready to run to the store and change it with cash to let her buy whatever she wanted and, you know what?

She liked it!!

My wife having fun with Android

My choice was motivated mainly by the OS, which is completely new for her and, as such, can be as intriguing as only new thing can be. Moreover, she likes physical keyboards and this device has got it, together with a huge user base ready to help with any issues.

In a few minutes she was up and running the device all alone, without any help, and she also installed some free apps from the Android Market (the iPod Touch experience is to be thanked here).

It’s too early to say if this is real love, but I am already jealous… of both!!
