Micro SD Cards Will Be Making Contactless Payments In 2010

In the second half of 2010 we will be able to pay for gas, groceries, and everywhere else contactless payments are allowed with just a swipe of our phones.   A company called Tyfone, a provider of secure mobility solutions, has solved the problem of a lack of available NFC-enabled (near field communication) handsets.  The company claims that any phone the Micro SD card fits into can be used as a contactless payment device, regardless of mobile platform.

According to a September 2009 forecast, by 2013 approximately 900+ million handsets will be enabled with memory card slots.

As one that already uses his Smart phone as a checkbook, I would like nothing more than to not have to pull out anything else at the pump.  With technology that mimics the already available speed pass cards, you don’t have to worry about anyone around the corner with a RFID reader waiting to steal your information.

Really interesting update to the whole mobile payments solution. I bet that real progress will be made in 2010 and 2011 that open this up to the masses.

yea, what I found most interesting is that it is totally programmable by the user. So you can add more than one account and use it however you want. It’s not tied to a specific credit card number like the current speed pass cards are. Also way that the release read said they where already produced. so that means they are available whenever they figure out a price point. I hope they hurry up!
