I am a huge fan of power.  No, not the I want to rule a small island country type of power (though that does sound good).  I mean power as in batteries that never die.  This is a great time for mobile power, as battery technology is finally starting to show some promise of breaking out of the limited lithium-ion model.  In the meantime, we have seen a lot of options designed to keep your device charged without tying you to a charger.  The most interesting solution for me is inductive charging.  This is the technology behind the Palm Pre’s Touchstone charger.  Simply by touching a sensor in your phone to a sensor on a charging platform, you can charge the battery…with no wires connecting the two.  The most recent example of this technology comes from Case-Mate, with their new Hug Charging System.  Sadly, the Hug is only available for iPhone 3G and 3GS, which means you will not find me testing this one, even though this is some really cool technology.  Don’t just take my word for it, though, read the press release below, and then head over to www.case-mate.com to check out the Hug for yourself.

The case-mate Hug is now available for the Apple iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS at www.case-mate.com.  The Hug, which includes the charging pad, iPhone case and screen protection kit, retails for $99.99.  Versions will be available for additional mobile devices, including most BlackBerry models in the coming months.  Case-mate will also offer a Hug that supports the charging of multiple devices simultaneously.
