Microsoft Talks Windows Phone 7 Series Development Ahead of GDC: Silverlight, XNA, and NO Backwards Compatibility

Thanks to Chris over at Engadget we are getting a little look at what to expect from Microsoft.  I for one am excited to see what the end result of this OS will be.  Hopefully it is finished when it comes out and in the time frame they are now speculating.  (Holidays, 2010).  Whatever that means.  I am also very concerned about the time frame for useful apps to be released.  We all have our staple programs and those program sets can run into hundreds of dollars that now all get scrapped?  I for one would have to have programs like Pocket-Esword, Opera, Cash Organizer, Mobipocket, Tom-Tom Navigator, SPB Time, and Handy Safe just to name a few, before I would be able to make the upgrade.  This means there is no reason why I shouldn’t switch to an Iphone or Android because they all leave me in the same boat.

I have also read that this OS will only be allowed 3 buttons?  I guess I should trust that they know what they are doing but with my X1i configured the way I want, nothing is more than two presses away and maybe a swipe, whereas other Windows Mobile devices I have tried out were more difficult getting to places that I wanted because you had to use the stylus and more presses.  I understand that this new operating system is supposed to be all touch friendly but so is windows mobile 6.5…..I guess the end result is that we’ll just have to wait and see what they release at this expo in a couple of weeks.
