Free For All: Wifi Remote Access for Windows Mobile

Wifi Remote Access for Windows Mobile

Wifi Remote Access is a relatively new freeware offering for Windows Mobile devices that allows users to interact with the contents of their phone’s storage via a desktop internet browser.  You can think of it as a cordless USB drive mode, with a few extra features thrown in here and there.

Usage is pretty simple.  Install Wifi Remote Access to your wifi enabled Windows Mobile device, run the program and enable the service.  Then enter the IP given by the program in your desktop browser of choice.  You’ll then be able to browse the contents of the internal storage and the device’s external memory card.

Desktop Interface Allows For Viewing of Device Contents

I’ve installed this on my HTC Hermes for testing purpose prior to installing it to my Touch Pro.  While at work, I’m on a Mac.  Using Firefox on it worked quite well, even though it said that some functionality may not be supported.  I was able to browse the contents of my device’s internal storage and microSD card without issue.  A really cool feature was actually viewing the pictures I had taken with my camera in the web browser window.  Very handy!  You’re also supposed to be able to play music stored on your phone, but I didn’t get around to testing this yet.

In conclusion, Wifi Remote Access is a great little application that makes a useful addition to any Windows Mobile user’s arsenal.  You can download an older version here:

I just downloaded this one. I hope to give it a try tomorrow. It should make transferring pictures taken on my HD2 a lot easier. I hate cables!
