Free For All: BattClock for Windows Mobile

BattClock for Windows Mobile is a great free offering. The program, by XDA-Developer member “ZuinigeRijder”, is a small in KB, easy on resources utility that performs the simple task of providing text information on the task bar. This information can be configured to include time, date, battery percentage, battery temperature, CPU percentage, free RAM and battery drain.

The program, currently at version 1.9, is continually receiving updates from the developer. He’s recently added the option to format the information horizontally as well as the original vertical orientation. Furthermore, the developer states in the XDA-Dev thread that he is considering adding support for two separate panels of information, since so much good feedback can be supplied from the program. I’m personally pulling for that plus a few other small features that will make this utility even more useful.

Once you configure BattClock via the supplied setup program, it quietly sits in the background, running as a process dutifully updating the taskbar as needed. It’s very customizable in terms of layout, size and coloring. Once set up, it is unintrusive. There is no more need to revisit the UI unless you need to tweak the layout. You’ll also find that the program restarts itself when the phone is rebooted, so you don’t need to run the program after each soft reset.
